I know all 2DS systems ship with exploitable firmware, but I've heard some ship with 7.1 and others ship with 6.0. I'm interested in a 6.0 system specifically because, from what I understand, you don't have to do any sketchy downgrading.

Of course, if it turns out I'm wrong and it really doesn't matter which I get, I'd like to know too.

Umm dude. 6.0 and 7.1 both require a downgrade for the MSET exploit...

Wait, 2DS's can be downgraded below 6.0? I thought that was the lowest they could go.

I don't know about a 2ds, but I do know that there are no exploits that were patched between 6.0 and 7.1.. Unless im stupid?
What exploit is avalivble on 6.0 and not on 7.1?

The MSET downgrade is safe as long as you downgrade to the 6.x MSET, as it won't result in a soft-brick if you format your sysnand. If you really don't want to downgrade your System Settings, then by all means, find a 6.x 2DS; it doesn't make much difference!

I've downgraded my mset from a couple of 9.2 2ds's. It's not going to hurt.
Definately recommend 6x mset though.

If you really have to have a 6x 2ds, go to a little shopped store and get a plain red or blue one, no pack ins.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way

Just give it a try, but honestly if you have a 3DS you can play DS games without a card just off the internal SD card
