At this point would it be easier to just drop the whole Xbox One concept, give sony a head start and make a new console that people will want to buy?

The confusion is that Microsoft doesn't really care about gamer's as such.... Microsoft wants a "set top box" an all in one machine that will be the hub of entertainment. The whole games console thing is just a Trojan horse for this to happen. Although to be honest the market they are shooting for isn't quite ready yet, the tech is still expensive and in reality the hardware isn't quite up to snuff yet either for what a family would need.

People will buy the XBone regardless of DRM or not.

People also bought the Dreamcast.
People also bought other home consoles that didn't sell well and got discontinued.

Why? Its a box that plays next gen games -- core competency checked. And its not like a start-over is going to change their image and reputation.

It would just be a waste of money and time to start over. Maybe drop kinect to save hardware starting cost, but that would be difficult at this point with devs expecting it on all machines.

It wouldn't be easier at all to spend upwards of 3 years to go back into R&D to create a new console from scratch, at worst, they'd skip out on this generation completely while doing so.

People will still buy it anyways.

The Dreamcast had some amazing games and IP's. Dreamcast also didn't flip flop uncertainly about DRM, and alienate their user base.

Imagine the huge fuss Microsoft releasing a new console after their failures would cause, they would be criticized even more for admitting their failure.

Still it got poorly sold.
No matter what the cause, people will still buy the Xbone.
Maybe not as much but it'll still get sold.

I miss the DC :c

At this point, it would be much more expensive (and damaging) to scrap the whole thing and start over instead of just releasing it and attempting to smooth out the problems post-launch.

Sometimes, you just have to suck it up and sleep in the bed you've made for yourself.

As long as Windows is pretty much the only option for companies (due to "exclusive" software for Windows, ie. they are crap for other OSs), Microsoft can pump money into any business they like. The Xbox is a stable brand and regardless of the craptastic E3, they'll still sell it. At least enough to make it worth it.

The worst thing Microsoft could do now is scrap the console as a whole. It's been developed, advertised, produced (at least most of the components, if not the assembly too) and games are/will be printed. It would be the end of the MS gaming division and the Xbox brand if they forfeited now.

Honestly I am not that big a fan of them to begin with in the video game world, but dropping their system outright to make a new one won't solve anything, if anything it will only damage them and the system's reputation more.

Edited out my stupidity.

Or they could just drop out of video game market out right and let someone more qualified take their place, that would be nice.
Same with the computer world too ^_^
If another company was more qualified then they would already be doing it or would have done it.
