Ok so i took my friends gauntlet seven sorrows and i tried to make an iso with it so i can patch it and play it. but all i got was an MDS file, and i00 and and i01 file. how do i make this an iso file so i can patch it?
I had this problem before as well (I use imgburn too). Look for a program called Daemon Tools Lite. This program lets you make a virtual drive. Then you cant mount the .MDS. In imgburn, pick the virtual drive (with the mounted .MDS) and make an ISO out of it. I had to do this with Killzone.

why would he need to mount his friends copy of gauntlet ?! ....guessing its a physical disk here being used!, so can just delete the MDF image files and re image the game disk again .....(no point in trying to over complicate it for him/her)
Use IMGBURN and choose CREATE IMAGE FROM DISK (make sure ISO is selected as file type in the dropdown for the save type) once its copied the disk to the HD as an iso then just patch with ESR PATCHER or MEMENTO disk patcher (practically the same thing anyway) and then just burn the image by using IMGBURN and choose WRITE IMAGE TO DISK choose whatever burn speed you normally burn at (I use either 2.4x or 4x max myself others use different) and then just play the game with your ESR exploited mem card or however you normally boot backups
