Hi All,

I have written up steps as to why im asking this question and will post up my syscheck. Any input would be greatly appreciated. After softmodding a Wii years ago manually step by step I have done another one using ModMii but ran into some issues, namely being that when i load Wii games i get a black screen. I thought this would be software related but all my iOS files look right. USB Loader GX (r1268) is using the correct iOS files as mentioned by Cyan in the link below so i am trying a different USB to check if this was causing the issue. GC games work with no issue. Black screen also happens with configurable USB loader.

Following Cyans advice on this thread: gbatemp.net/threads/usb-loader-gx-black-screen-when-loading-wii-games.366033/
I went to reinstall the 2 WADs used by USB Loader GX.
cIOS249[56]-d2x-v8-final
cIOS250[57]-d2x-v8-final

This is the part that worries me and the reason i created the thread:
I went into Multi Mod Manager to reinstall all WADs provided by ModMii. They all failed with the exception of IOS58-64-v6176. Which would always complete while the others failed.
I then tried to uninstall all WADs to then reinstall however this did not work (thank god i didnt realize the risk) either and failed with an error -2011 or something along these lines.
I then used WAD Manager v1.7 to uninstall and reinstall the 2 WADs mentioned in the forum post. Between uninstall and reinstall i went back in and realized for some reason the IOS was set to 58 when it should've been 249. I was not sure if i had installed using 249 or 58 ss it had set itself to 58 (possibly from reinstalling it using MMM).
To be safe (so i thought), i chose ios58 uninstalled the 2 WADs (went through, and said uninstalled successfully) and went to reboot by exiting WAD manager v1.7. The system froze and i had to hard reset the Wii.
Went back into WAD manager, chose ios246 and uninstalled and reinstalled again. Exited to reboot and it worked without issue.

My question is , according to the syscheck below the 2 WAD files in question are installed on the right iOS's. If they had not been, would this be shown below? (I.e if i had chosen a different IOS (58) the system would have it listed below). Is it possible to have the same WAD on two different IOS's?

As the system froze upon reboot i was worried i uninstalled them when i shouldnt have (i.e it wouldve been better to leave them there then uninstall as they may have previously been system files).

I am still receiving the black screen and USB Loader GX is bugging out by not showing any Wii Games on boot, when i go to the selection and tick Wii games, the cursor/remote works but when i click anything its unresponsive, besides this the wii is working completely fine. I have decided to leave it as is rather than restore from NAND and start over. I appreciate any feedback, apologies for the long post i just summed up my experience in the last few days.

Hello

Support usb in which format ??

Test a game with a usb key?

The USB is in FAT32 format with a 32kb cluster. I tried a different USB but still get the black screen from time to time. Resetting the console rectifies the issue and the games will play so not sure if this is an iOS issue.

Last time I played a game was hmmm... can't exactly recall.

I haven't been gaming for such a long time. Been mostly busy with sleep, hardware tinkering and checking GBAtemp frequently.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Hope you've had a good morning.

It's going alright thanks :) I know what you mean with gaming time. It's precious where I can get it these days.

I think that's why I focus on just enjoying single player experiences that aren't too competitive

    How are you doing?

There's also this thing where I'm hyperfocused at night and cannot get to sleep.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
    @Maximumbeans, I'm doing alright, thanks.

That must be rough. Productive I'm sure but hard to balance with daily life

@Maximumbeans, Indeed. I've been working on getting this Infecutus chip to work on my PS2. But after soldering, I realised that a plastic piece was missing from the power ribbon cable to the power and eject buttons.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Man, that's beyond my brain  I'm no good with hardware for now. I'd like to get into hardmods in future though
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Maybe start practice soldering. Get a cheap-ass soldering iron and follow some good YouTube tutorials.

Least my experience has gotten better than over a decade ago. My iron would constantly bump into components and break them.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Sounds good. I actually did soldering but like 16 years ago for school so uuuuh probably rusty haha
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Same here. I did soldering at school from a teacher who I honestly liked since he had plenty of good electronics experience.

@Maximumbeans, I had a friend who had a glass chess set for their birthday.

It was like all clear and fancy. Tbf I'm not too experienced with chess, but would like to learn someday.
