Is trading a Vita(3.60fw) for a Wii u(5.5.1fw) worth it?

Hey guys I need advice. In light of all the recent happenings for the vita these past few days with the release of Vitamin and the ability to dump (and soon load with high success percentage) games. I have someone who wants to trade me their 32gig deluxe Wii U(with gamepad) that is currently on 5.5.1 for my 3.60 (henkaku enabled) Vita + a 4gig memory card. I am not familiar with the Wii U scene that well and all I know is that homebrew is possible on that firmware and nothing more.

I feel it is important to mention that I DO have a softmodded Wii that I have attached to a 160gig hard drive for loading games via USB Loader Gx. So my question to you guys(preferrably someone that has a homebrew enabled Wii U but open to all) is this trade worth it or should I stick with my vita? I don't know what is possible on the Wii u in comparison to what is possible on the regular Wii. Im interested in the general consensus so I have made this into a poll for those that don't want to reply but I have to make a decision by tomorrow night so any and all feedback would be appreciated on or off poll!

WiiU has Loadline, Vita now has Henkaku. Both are kinda dying in their respective fields. You can buy a used vita for around $100, the 4gig memory card costs $25.97. A Wii U used can run $245. I believe Loadline runs on 5.5.1 otherwise he wouldn't of stated this. Honestly, I think it just comes down to what you believe will be used more. As long as both systems in question work that is.

certainly wii u is more expensive than vita. Wii u is hacked only via sd memory card , hdd is not compatible yet so you can expect a lot of slow loading and compatibility issues , though it's it's hackable at it's latest firmware which is 5.5.1 , while on the other hand the vita is not hackable on it's latest firmware which is 6.1 with henkaku. The wii u is really dead , only very few games will be released on it before the releases of the next console nx next spring

In terms of having fast internet I have a 50Mbps connection so thats not an issue. As far as which will be used more its kind of hard to say. Prior to henkaku and vitamin my vita was collecting dust and I wasn't really using it considering its kind of dead but then again so is the wii u. Ironically both consoles are dead from a games/software standpoint which is why this choice is difficult.

Thank you for this informative response. I had no idea that the Wii U is only hacked via sd memory card and that hdd is not compatible yet like it is on the wii. Im assuming that means wiiu is still awaiting more exploits to be discovered and you are right about slow loading and compatibility issues via sd card which is concerning. Do you think its scene will likely evolve and it will turn into what the Wii currently is?

I was considering this and was thinking of putting it as a 3rd option in poll being that wii u is more expensive like omer said but idk if its worth the hassle. Does wii u REALLY go for $245 these days used?

If you're looking at the consoles without hacks, then it honestly depends on your personal preferences. Both have amazing games, though the Vita has a lot of 3rd party support while the Wii U doesn't.
In terms of hacks, I would recommend to keep the Vita. The Vita scene has seen some amazing progress in just one month, while the Wii U scene has been stagnating for the last months.

I was surprised by the results of the poll. I'd say the Wii U is more expensive and when you look at both the devices, IMO the Vita has hit the grave earlier.

Like some mentioned, if you are deciding which system to play on it all comes down to what games you like to play. I've had both since launch and haven't touched either a lot, but the Vita a lot less.

I would keep the psvita- portable and has back comp with psp and ps1 both of which has great games. Otoh the wiiu can play all nintendo consoles games(but the 3ds) (nes, snes, n64, gb, gbc, gba and ds via vc and wii with back comp. And also gc with nintendont.) Its a good console if youre a zelda fan, or if u wanna play all wii games and mario maker. The vita has more multimedia options afaik. Maybe as zelda fan Ill choose wiiu but overall psvita is better. Its a matter of what games u play

If you are really that adamant on getting rid of your Vita for a Wii U, why not do the said trade and then save up for a PSTV? (If you didn't already know; they are the equivelent to a Vita hooked up to a TV, but with a few limitations) PSTVs are really climbing down the price ladder recently; I have seen places selling them for around £20-£40; and that's mostly in places stocking them in brand new! Mine came on the lowest FW you can get on a PSTV (3.20) so perhaps that may give you some confidence?

This way, you can still get the best of both worlds!

You can buy a vita secondhand for like 50 euro's and most aren't updated since nobody cares anymore. So if u were you i would go look for a spare around that price and then make the trade.

If you already have wii and 3ds i say no. But if you don't have those consoles i say: "of course go for it". Don't listen to those stupid sony fan boys. You could play gamecube games, wii games, wii u games, emulators, watch porn on the big screen. What games has the vita to offer? The only reason to get vita it all is if you in love with rpg. Replace your vita and buy second hand cheap psp and you all set.

Reasons for psvita- psp is big in hacking scene and thos are compatible with psvita. Psp and ps1 have lots of very good games and are both compatible with psvita. Psvita is portable. If you live with parents and are a kid/teen- watching porn on smaller screen is a better idea.... but yes, wiiu has wii and gamecube which are both awesome consoles...

I have a wii that can play gamecube and wii games so that appeal of the Wii U is lost on me and its interesting to see that the polls are split 50/50 with getting wii u and keeping my vita. Im interested in each console in terms of hacks so im guessing in that case it would be best to stick with my vita? but then again once the wii u is cracked open like the wii is it will be better than the vita no? Im thinking of doing what alot of users are saying and that is to go ahead with the trade and get a second hand vita. Might be the only way to have the best of both worlds I think.

Does anyone know if Hykem leaving the scene has left the Wii u at a standstill in terms of progress or are there others working on the Wii u

Definitely worth it if you consider the price. Homebrew wise, they're both currently at the same stage. Maybe the Vita scene is currently much more active, but Mathew_Wi has hinted towards releasing an IOSU exploit in the near future for 5.5.1.

Update: I decided to keep my PSvita and not go through with the trade due to the following 2 reasons:

1. I already own a softmodded Wii with a 160gig hd attached
2. The homebrew community for the Vita is thriving right now and can only get better where as the homebrew community for the Wiiu is close to dead. There are rumors of an IOSU exploit dropping soon but they are just that rumors and no one has/can confirm their validity.

I know from a price standpoint I probably should have gone through with the trade but the fact of the matter is that the Wii U basically has HD versions of all the games I have on the Wii already and the games(besides Zelda BOTW) are not that appealing to me considering my main gaming console is a PS4(soon to be PS4Pro). Maybe once the Wiiu is on the same level as the Wii in terms of hacking/homembrew I will pick one up but for now I will stick with my Vita/PS4/Wii.

Thank you everyone for your input in helping me decide!

That's your choice then but if it was my choice i would go for the Wii u and buy a vita secondhand around 50 euro's wich i did and there are enough floating around that price point.
