I have a black Wii that plays GameCube games so I assume it can also play DVDs (this model was before the newer ones arrived that removed both of these features) but the problem is that I can't get it to work.

I've installed DI files (DVDX and DI) and then tried to get it working on MPlayer CE but no luck.

Dunno if WiiMC works because that's only usable with Wiimote and I'd like to avoid that since my Wiimote's batteries only work for less than an hour and then it's dead again.

Why do your Wiimote batteries die after 1 hour? Have you considered getting a charger? Then you could try WiiMC. Have you tried to find a Youtube video where it shows the MPlayer playing DVD's?
Watch movies, not pay ridiculous amounts of money for streaming... ;)

WiiMC played dvd's last time I tried it, but sometimes it would freeze and have other problems in my experience.

I have a charger on it but it's gone crazy so it lasts for really short now.

No, it won't work, only the older optical drives can play dvds

Really? That's a damn shame but thanks for the info.
