Hi,
hopefully I'm putting this in the right section.
I'm literally stuck as to where to go next when it comes to installing what I need to get my 2DS XL to do what I want so.....

I bought a brand new Nintendo 2DS XL, R4i Gold 3DS PLUS and a Sandisk Ultra micro SD card with 32gb of memory with the hope of installing CFW and eventually installing games via freeshop.

I followed this tutorial from youtube .

At approximately 7:00 mins into the video when it requires me to install the recommended CIA files via FBI I get this error;

Result code: 0xC8E08001
Level: Status (25) Summary:
Invalid argument (7)
Module: AM (32)
Desc: <unknown> (1)

The one thing I think might be causing this issue is I have three extra options when I open Homebrew and they are in picture attached, the fact that the home-brew applications have "unknown author" labeled on them makes me think that this is whats preventing me from finalising the tutorial.

Finally I must state that I am in every essence the of the word a beginner when I comes to this type of thing but I can follow instructions very well so what I'm asking is that if theres anyone that can help me solve this problem I will very much appreciate it.

hopefully its glaringly obvious and easy to fix.

kind regards.

Please, for the love of god, never follow YouTube tutorials. Use https://3ds.guide instead.
Those files in your screenshot are not .3dsx files. They are those weird files that OS X generates for every file you have. This is about as far from the issue as you could possibly go.
If you can open FBI, and it fails, you should reboot your 3DS and try again. Then, continue the haxing process WITH 3ds.guide.

I'm sorry but I have no idea which part of the 3ds.guide I would step into at this point.
I hate to use the word noob but at this stage I'd attach that label to myself.
Im guessing there's no way of completely starting over either so if anyone could give me a couple of pointers that would be appreciated..

Ok, fair enough. Try this:
  • Update to latest firmware (if necessary)
  • Open eShop, close it, open it again, close it, and reboot
  • Open FBI and try to install the things

ok I followed what you said but the exact same thing happened again.

also is that fact that I'm doing this on my iMac an issue?

Honestly, I don't know any more than just basic troubleshooting, sorry.
The fact you're doing it on a Mac shouldn't be an issue.

First, try redownloading the critical things from here:
https://github.com/Steveice10/FBI/releases/tag/2.4.14
https://github.com/d0k3/GodMode9/releases/tag/v1.5.1

Also redownload the CIAs you were installing. They should be under the "What You Need" here: https://3ds.hacks.guide/finalizing-setup
If it works, follow 3ds.guide from that link onward.

Hi again, I have another question;
even though my console has already had ntrboot flashed to it with my R4i Gold 3DS PLUS do I have to do it again?
Or should I start from the "installing boot9strap" section?

OK!!!
Firstly, thank you for not being too soft with me and kinda letting me work this thing out for myself,
Secondly, I've done it!!!
I tried the whole process twice, first on my Mac only to fail miserably again... then on my windows laptop, it seems the duplicate files that the OSX was creating was causing the CIA error!

Now onto installing freeshop, is there a preferred method/tutorial that you'd recommend?

Huge thanks once again!!

No problem!
Installing freeShop is quite easy.
Download it here: https://notabug.org/evi/freeShop/releases
Once you're in freeShop, go into the settings and scan the QR code for the encrypted title keys. Just google "3ds titlekeys site" (can't link to it), it's the first result.
After that, you should be good to go!
