    No problem at all.
The flashing of Phat 360's is free.
Slims will be costly, since they can't be flashed without additional hardware and or replacement PCB's and the newer slims can't be flashed at all.

Key extraction is free for Phat and early slims (the glossy ones)

Out of interest how much would it be to flash a slim dvd drive?

Depends on what drive it is.
I highly recommend an Xkey as it's a much better alternative then a flashed drive.

Sure the Xkey might cost more but you won't be needing to spend time burning DVD's, not to mention reburning if you get them scratched.

Could you tell me how much it is for a lite on? I probably won't be able to afford a xkey as I have a limited budget

    What kind of Liteon?
    Console MFR date?

Will flag a console if it's scratched enough to trigger flags.
Besides, it still doesn't defeat the 45 min burn time.

I'm not sure about which liteon, but it is a matte black slim, but not the one that was released around xbox one time

It needs a RGH, which will up the price significately.

What you could do is trade it in for a Phat 360 made in 2010, if you really want to flash it.

No it won't. You're one of the smartest people in this scene, don't spread this huge misconception. If that was how it works everyone with scratched retail disc would get banned too. And people with unofficial hard drives. And third party controllers. And...

    Unfortunately, it did happen.

If certain parts of the disc are scratched, the console will trigger a flag.
This is mainly with AP2.5 games and games that have CIV.
The console can't read the proper data anymore and flag the console.
Pretty much same thing that happens when you run an unpatched AP2.5/XDG3 disc.

I personally know someone who has a banned 360 thanks to a scratched disc.
I know cause he refused me offer of hacking his drive several times ;p

Edit: unofficial harddrives, well, the only thing the console checks for is the security sector.
3rd party controllers, I thought MS has disabled those in a dash update?
I know that unofficial Memory cards (the one with MicroSD adapters) don't work anymore after a certain dash.

This does happen, but the flag actually does nothing - as in, there is no effect on the end user.

Your friend is probably lying (my guess is marketplace theft since it's about the only thing you can be console banned for without having hardware hacked console) - my 360 from early 2013, with a swapped drive without spoofing, non burnermax XGD3 burns, scratched discs, modded ISOs - no ban, on my main profile or my console. It will not happen dude. If it would, you would hear about it more often. I have not found anyone who could ever provide evidence you can get banned for using a flashed drive after 2012, for any reason. To go further with this - CIV checks are performed on retail discs, and they can fail if the disc is scratched. Normal users would be affected. This is why it isn't possible to get banned for not having perfect 1-1 games.

    He wasn't banned immediately.
It took an awful long time before the ban arrived, but it did happen.

I'm almost tempted to make a video of me playing one of my "bad" backups, upload it, then five years later come back and show my 360 isn't banned. It barely matters now, it wouldn't matter at all then. I just... NEED to disprove this logic.

And for what it's worth, you won't get banned for marketplace theft immediately.

    *shrugs*
MS has almost given up on the 360 so it indeed doesn't matter much anymore.
Things you still get banned for is taking JTAG/RGH machines online + the XGD3 topology bans.
Tho the latter I'm uncertain of.

If i send you more money, could you get a new hard drive and flash that with the old ones keys? Mines broken AND needs flashing

you said you dont do hardware mods anymore? does that mean you dont do these mods at all or just that i have to take the hard drive out of the xbox and send that to you? cause i can do that.

Are you sure it's the harddrive?
DVD drive flashing (on Phat) is extremely easy and I could do that no prob.
However, if you lost your DVD keys (and the DVD drive is completely dead), I need to RGH your 360 in order to recover the keys.
