The future of the Fable franchise began to look bleak and unpromising with the release of Fable 3, followed by some really crap Kinect titles.

Fable legends, a 4v1 multiplayer action game that was promised to be free to play and be relatively expansive, has now been cancelled by the developers.

While it is not definitive that Lionhead will be closing, it is most likely that we will never see another Fable game from them again. Perhaps the IP may be passed on to some other studio but as of right now, things are only looking worse for people waiting for new IP on Xbox One.

    I forgot
Damn, beat me to the punch :whip:

As much as I liked Fable: The Lost Chapters, I'm not exactly sad to see Lionhead Studios go (if they go). They kinda pooped on the Fable series, so that kinda sucked, and Black and White was pretty good until 2.

Oh well, at least they won't keep shitting on the Fable series this way.

    Not surprised or disappointed really.
I loved Lost chapters and still enjoyed Fable 2 even though it was already feeling as though it was going downhill.
After that, I'm just gonna say meh.

    I'm gonna be honest.
All I cared about from Lionhead was Black & White.

p1ngpong once called it Gears of Fable during it being shown off at an E3. It seemed very apt.

I never got on well with Fable and this does not look like it would have changed that.

Fable 1 was great, everything else in the franchise since has been average imo. Not really a fan of the studio overall.

Maybe someday we'll see the beta release of this game like it has happened with Battlefront 3 beta on the 360.

This is what happens when you try a f2p formula then try and charge hundreds of dollars for what should have only been a $30 game...

This isn't surprising in the very least, and now it just means we will never see a true Fable game again. :/

I loved Fable 1 and 2, 3 was decent but nowhere near as good as the originals. i haven't played much else from lionhead studios, although i do recall there logo being in a few movies i've seen so i guess they didn't just do games, Fable is more or less my favorite xbox ip but lionhead just couldn't figure out what to do with it. I would say id love to see what other developers could do with the ip but honestly i don't want to take the chance of getting a Fable 2006.
RIP Fable - Favorite Xbox IP

I kinda saw this coming. I'm not really gonna miss them. Fable 1 was decent, and Black and White 1 was also ok, but nothing else really shined.

    (tfw I miss bullfrog.)

Time for Nintendo to come along and buy it up...
...and while they are at it they should revive Call of Cthulhu and Eternal Darkness to boot. :)

I loved all 3 of the main fable games. I liked what I played in fable legends. The only thing I was effy on was the villain player. I didn't even try the villain thing. I thought playing as a villain against everyone else was unnecessary. But every other espect of the game was shaping up nicely. Basically it was final fantasy explorers only with a lot more to do.

Same. Fable: TLC was alright too, but everything since then has been pretty much garbage.

I'm not surprised (yet a lot of people were? really?). The thing about companies like Lionhead or Rare, is that they're so preoccupied with whether or not they could that they didn't stop to think if they should.

It's sad to see what's happened to Lionhead over the years and honestly it could've been prevented. This also makes me think about that Sleeping Dogs MMO. I liked these games but making a MMO requires a LOT of time and money and honestly its just a big gamble. Now with Fable and Sleeping Dogs in the trash I highly doubt we'll ever see a proper sequel for either series.

I always prefer Lost Chapters to the others, however I was intrigued with the story and where they could of took it. Especially if they went back in time to a time where you met the entire royal court. Oh well, they never listened to fans anyways.

    Good.
They killed the series in the second game. Fable 1 was fantastic, Lost Chapters was fantastic. How they fucked up so immensely, i'll never know.
Actually, i've got a pretty good guess given the way they "improved" Fable 3 was by ruining every single possible aspect people originally liked about Fable and adding a bunch of casual dogshit features no one wanted. It was very, very clear the studio was completely out of touch with what its fans wanted and liked about Fable.

Despite Fable 1 being one of my personal favourite games. I am not shocked to see this happening.
