Hardware Extract Audio from HDMI Out

You can get boxes that split the audio and video but they are expensive.
It would be much easier if the Wii U could output audio over composite/component even when HDMI is being used, sadly I don't think that's the case.

It is not, how much do you think I could get away with; I only want the standard 3.5mm stereo jack.

If you have a Wii AV or Component cable laying around, you can use the audio output from that even if the video is HDMI. Just select "Non-HDMI" or "Both" in the Output-Cable Settings.
