Hi I bought an Elink about six years ago online, and haven't used it in a while. I just downloaded the newest version of Elink software and noticed when I went to Add a game to the burn menu, the start burn button wasn't clickable, aka greyed out. I should also mention that my Elink firmware is only 3.3 and I've seen it be higher than that. How can I update the firmware?

Oh and I was also wondering about the battery inside Elink, can it be charged with a wall charger as well as a USB cable? I've read that this could be caused by a bad battery *Crossing fingers*

Any info is appreciated :)

Battery life is anywhere from 3-5 years.

If you got a game and the save keeps disappearing, then yes your battery is dead.

It doesn't have a rechargeable battery, your wasting your time doing that. Rechargeable batteries require a recharge every couple of months and there were no instructions for you to do that when you got the thing.

If you don't have a clickable "start burn" button, that means the program doesn't see the flashcart attached to your computer. In this case, that means you likely got an incompatible version of windows.

There is a VM guide: http://gbatemp.net/threads/using-virtualbox-to-manage-legacy-gba-flashcarts.275407/

Yeah I'm running Windows 8 so I guess that could be a problem. Also I've had this Elink since about 2008 or 2009 so that's well over 5 years. What are my options? I only have access to windows 8 and really nothing else :/

What you can do:
A. replace the battery via soldering or tape method.
B. Do nothing.
C. sell it to somebody in the trade section that wants to buy it off you, you already meet the requirements to post there.
D. Chuck it in the trash and move onto something else.

tape method: http://gbatemp.net/threads/guide-change-your-ezflash-3-in-1-battery-w-pics.132872/

soldering batteries with tabs will require you to get them from someplace like digikey, mouser, etc.
See the maintainance section here for batteries with tabs: http://gbatemp.net/threads/how-to-tell-which-version-of-the-3in1-you-have.130659/

---

If your going to try and get it to work, you will want to use the VM guide, use the link from the previous post for that.
