Gaming Download play

I have a 3ds XL and also another dsI and I'm trying to see if download play works, so far nothing but on my 3ds I'm using Mario kart but the cia version.

Is that probably the reason why download play doesn't work for me ?

Download play won't work then. It needs to be another 3DS. Also, what Alex4U said.

You can't play 3DS games with a DSi. 3DS are just compatible with 3DS consoles. not with DS or DSi.

Mario kart 7

mario 7 is a 3ds game.
you can't download play a 3ds game to a DS game
time to read the game and console manuals

if this isn't clear enough, even if you have the real game cartridge you can't do download play a 3ds game to a DSI or inferior
and keep in mind, no mario kart 7 will not launch in your dsI and you will not be able to download play it to the 3ds
you require 2 3DS consoles, can be anything from 3ds, 3dsxl n3ds, n3dsxl, 2ds, n2dsxl.

YOU CAN HOWEVER use mario kart DS why any combination of DS, dsi or 3ds.
you can't download play anything with a switch.

sshh, i am sad that nintendo didn't include small gifts like a NDS download play minigame or something in the 3ds games that do support 3ds download play :C
for the youger siblings that get the older sibling's old consoles :C
but i guess it's due to the changed protocols stuff
but seriously, fuck nintendo for not giving us a NDS play 3ds "app" where we could download minigames to play with the younger siblings\cousins that get the older consoles
