I'm getting a RGH'd Xbox with a Coolrunner. and am new to gaming with an Xbox. I know with my Wii that I soft modded it asks if you want to update from disc. Does Xbox do that, or does it automatically launch the update? I just wanted to check before I threw in a retail disc and screwed something up. Sorry if it sounds dumb, but like I said, I've never gamed on the Xbox.

On a side note, since it's blocked from Live access, you still make profiles and avatars the same way, it's just offline, correct?

Thanks, and don't laugh!

Yes.

However the 360 asks if you want to update so decline it.

To update your 360, use 360 multibuilder.
Feed it your ORIGINAL NAND (or NAND dump) and your CPUKey.
Then select the board type + hacktype.

After that you can flash the NAND to the console with a FAT32 USB drive with XeLL's rawflash or with a flasher that works on FSD. 360 NAND flasher is one of them.

To update the MS dash with Avatars and stuff.
Download the official update from xbox.com and rename the update folder to $$ystemupdate.
Then let the MS dash update.

And yes.
Profile creation and Avatar stuff is available.
Even when your 360 is banned you can still make them.

Remember.
Update the NAND first, then the dashboard!

I'd also delete the $systemupdate folder for every game. and, install dashlaunch and configure it to reject updates. rename the update folder to $$ystemupdate when installing avatar, media, kinect data. I'd also enable parental settings to block live access. that should prevent any accidental update or live connection by anyone who plays the system.

To add something to what @godreborn said.

The systemupdate folder doesn't get copied to your HDD if you extract games from DVD's using FSD.
(atleast last time I did it it didn't)
It also shouldn't copy the folder from ISO's extracted on PC....

But it's a good idea to always check it yes.

And yes.
Check your 360 settings on Live blocking.
