I don't understand what "file" you are talking about.

To run games with DM(L), you need only one file : the game ISO.

on Wii :
* install BC v6 (maybe that's your problem!)
* install DM or DML 2.11
* Connect the drive to USB Port 0
* If you connect to USBPort1, DO NOT CONNECT any HDD on port 0.

on external (usb or sd):
* place your ISO in /games/game title here/game.iso
* place your launcher here in /apps/my favorite launcher/boot.dol

restriction for USB :
* HDD must not be bigger than 2TB
* HDD must not use Advanced mode (4096bytes/sector), Only 512bytes/sector works.

* Partition need to be the first physical partition of your drive (if your drive is partitioned, games need to be on the FIRST primary partition of the drive)
* Partition table need to be MBR (not GPT)
* Partition need to be primary (not extended/logical)
* Partition need to be formated to FAT32
* Cluster size need to be 32kB or less.

restriction for SD:
* same as USB, but usually SD card are not partitioned (but it can be done! so maybe your SD card is wrong, format it again with Panasonic SD Formater 4)
* FAT32
* 64k/cluster or less

Could you try to use USBLoaderGX instead of DM Booter?
USBLoaderGX will check your setting and warn you if something is wrong.

check here for full setup of DM/DML for USBLoaderGX

use cIOS installer app for HB, follow a guide on correct cIOSs to install, launch neogamma app for HB, scroll down one and voila! You can choose to launch from dvd, sd or usb. Select one and bob's your uncle! It works!

I guess you are explaining to him how to play Wii games?
he wants to launch DIOS MIOS Lite to play gamecube ISO, but it's currently running the inserted Disc instead of the ISO.

That's nice to want to help users, but please read the full thread to see what he already tried, and what works or not.
Neogama is a little old as a suggested choice of game launcher.

you have progress, it's not loading the disc anymore.
If it stays on black screen it means your USB is not compatible with DIOS MIOS USB driver. try another USB device.
USB are harder to use than SD card because it require more specific settings (sector size, usb interface, etc.)

I found a usb that works, but when I load the iso on the new usb, it loads up the dios mios screen, but then it just stays on that screen. The good news is that it's not playing the game disc and that it's not saying the "apploader size is zero, but it's stuck there.

Apploader size is zero = ISO NOT FOUND (or bad ISO/bad dump).

Most probably you didn't format the partition correctly.
verify the USB requirement I posted above.

Pictures on your progress will help. Is it FAT32 with a cluster size of 32kb? Honestly use Nintendont. I don't even think Dios Mios is being updated anymore. Nintendont has nice compatibility and works great.

To check if the USB HDD has 32kb cluster make a new .txt and type hello or hi inside the note and save it. Look at properties and see the size, it should say 32kb.

Could be multiple issues. My bet is that it's your HDD. Sorry for asking but I didn't look at the first post again.. Have you tried DML? The Dios Mios that uses the SD card?
Please just try Nintendont. All those game should work and on top of that make sure those game are Region Compatible.

It takes long for the DIOS MIOS splash screen to show up

DIOS MIOS looks for an USB device on port 0 first and has code in place which waits for a device to become ready, only after (10seconds) it tries port 1.
  • Simply connect your device to port 0 instead.

That was one thing I noticed.
Also there is this, a former person who also got stuck at the splash screen. https://gbatemp.net/threads/dios-mios-2-6-stuck-at-splash-screen.339764/
He mentioned his issue was the HDD, he has a USB Data Stick but it's the same thing. Please make sure the the HDD is in port 0 and fully connected with a fat32 cluster size of 32kb.

Again pictures will help. A program you can use for formatting and setting the cluster size is called Acronis Disk Director [Paid Program] - http://www.acronis.com/en-us/personal/pc-backup/ You can also do it in the pc's tool using format. I've never had any luck with that one though. I think there is free programs that can do this too. If you use Nintendont and the same still happens then we know for sure it will be a HDD issue.

Just in case that doesn't work, what do you need to use Nintendont? I tried loading an iso, and it said, "loading patched kernel -1." What do I do to fix it?
