These are some pretty old trainers from before there were any cheat functions built into carts so there are kept here perhaps for nostalgia or for the few people stuck on a slot 2 flash cart with no ability to cheat in these games. For cheating in any game with codes you want get DSATM.

Here's my ever-growing list of trainers. All of these are coded by hand in ARM assembly code from AR DS codes people have made or from addresses I have found from cheat searching in emulators. Please message me or post a reply if you find a bug caused by a trainer. Apply the patch (cr-xxxpxx.ips) with your favorite IPS patcher to the untouched (verified clean, pure, etc by a scanning tool) game and write the patched game to your cart as usual. (To reiterate in different words: the trainers will more than likely not work on games that have been sent through a utlity such as the EZ4 Client, m3 Manager, etc.) Note that all of the trainers are hardcoded and can't be turned off. This is the reason that most of the trainers included 'unpatches' to turn off cheats that you don't want on. Apply the 'unpatches' of the cheats you want to turn off to the already patched game. Feedback appreciated. And thanks to all the people who made the AR DS codes (Dualscreenman, FNG, gardevor, Hiei-YYH, Imaha486, kenobi, laurens, nolberto83, Parasyte, and all anonymouse codemakers) -- very tedious work.

Even though I've had advanced warning of these, and I've seen and used some of them, I still have to come along and say this:

Well done ! It's impressive work hacking all those games. Congrats and keep it up. I for one am loving it.

Yes you have to patch a pure (verified) game. Games that are copied via patching software are encrypted and/or altered so the patch won't work right on pre-patched games.

Cheers mate! I made a trainer once before for the GBA years ago (Army Men +1). It took me a whole weekend to figure out how to do it and code a tiny intro. Really appreciate the hard work involved [IMG]

Woa! I'm really impressed! Awesome work.
Where can us commoners learn how to do this things. I mean, I've been ROM hacking and playing with RAM for a while, but I can't do something on this level.

They aren't trainers as such as they are just patches, basically you take what you are writing in memory and apply it to the rom image directly.

Anyways, awesome work [IMG] they are great for people that can't use disptar or action replay, and it looks like you spent a lot of time on them.

As i recall, i wrote a few of these patch's when Pokemon Diamond came out, albeit a little more elaborate as i had to write all the routines in assembly, but the concept was the same.

We spoke on IRC and forums already but once again I will say whoo trainers.

    @Heran Bago
Most of this is from conversations with cracker so do not thank me for this.
I will keep this short and sweet (no examples or issues to deal with) but you need to have codes already made or an emu/debugger available to find ram section/registers responsible.
You then need to disassemble the rom (this assembler works especially for the DS which is nice):
    http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA018359/ndsdis/
You then find the instruction dealing with the memory location/register you want and change it to another one (you can encode by hand or use an ARM7/9 assembler), having now got a new instruction simply replace the old one and enjoy.

Not to take away from your effort, but since they don't aren't toggleable options it's not a trainer per se, it's 'merely' a hack to do what you want it to do.

Now all you need to do is make a small menu, insert it into the game arm9 and point the start up execution there. From there you poke a bit or byte in ram for each option you made and hook into some routine which is executed repeatedly during gameplay and from there alter the ram locations for the variables.

    Simple as pi.

vvvv Again, not to take away from the effort, but an unselectable trainer is a hack. Not that hacks are inherently worse or lesser worth than a trainer. There are some cools hacks made to games. With that said, keep on trucking, sir! Exploration and curiosity are good traits to pursue.

@WangJang: Actually I did a fair bit of assembler programming between all of them. I gotta say that Yoshi's Island was the coolest one of all and was definitely not a simple byte replacement. [IMG]

@bunsy: Well it's semantics really. You can call an unselectable trainer a hack if you want but it won't change what it does. There are two reasons why I don't do a menu-selectable trainer:
    1) I haven't done much DS programming so I would have to learn it first and I'm more interested in getting the trainers (or hacks if you prefer) out
    2) menu-selectable trainers break compatibility with many flash carts

My goal was to let people w/o the ability to use DipStar, ARDS, CBDS to cheat in games so #2 would destroy the purpose of enabling a lot of those people.

To add to what FAST said:
I get the codes I want to use from the Action Replay software. I then disassemble the game I want to apply the cheats to. I search for the memory address responsible for storing the value I want to alter. If I find it then I can easily manipulate area of ROM where it occurs to load the maximum value into the address instead of loading the current value from the address. If I can't find the address then things aren't as easy. I need to find an area in the game that is repeatedly called (key handling routines are ideal). I can then either 1) try to find some opcodes that aren't vital to the execution of the game and overwrite them with opcodes to load the maximum value into the address or 2) find a good spot to set up a jump to a function that I've coded by hand which then jumps back to the following opcode from where it came when it is done

Great work, i hope this kicks off the trainer/patch scene for ds. Keep it up. is there one for other RPGs? children of mana etc...

also on a side note, when i patched my castlevania;POR game it corrupted the current save file and had to start a whole new game. no big deal since i can now get farther. using DSX

For the castlevania trainer the money option locks the amount at 999999. In some of the quests you have to have an amount like 777 and even down to 0. just a side note.

@dakine: Hmm I'm not sure why it would mess with the save at all since the area of the game I messed with isn't to do with saving. Thanks for the info on the number specific amount for money in missions. I must admit I haven't played it much at all (only enough to test the trainer) so I wasn't sure if it was in this game like DoS or not and searching the guides yielded no hits. [IMG] What you might want to do is save with the trainer applied and then play with the pure game (or with the trainer that doesn't have infinite money if you want infinite hp/mp) and then buy some stuff to bring the money down when you need to open a door with the right value, etc.

    ^--- how do you disassemble?

*Did you use the ndesmume/ideas+hasteds+ndsdis2 combination?
*Are the memory address stated in the Action Replay Codes can be found in the opcodes of the disassembled file?
*And how do you apply the changes?

I want to learn more so i could help in this segment. I have background in programming ASM in 8-bit MCUs(PICmicro, Motorola, and 80C51) so a 32-bit ARM MCU is new to me

I use ndsdis2, devkitpro to assemble the assembler instructions (if it isn't a simple one opcode replacement) and XVI32 for hex editing the instructions into a place in the ARM9 binary. To get the offset of where to edit subtract 0x1996000 from the address shown in the disassembly. The addresses can be found sometimes in the disassembly but other times you need to find a place in the game that is called often (key handling routines, etc) and load the addresses and store the max value manually. ex:

    mov r1,#0x63
    mov r0,#0x2000000 /*make r0 = 0x20D5F90*/
    add r0,r0,#0xD5000
    add r0,r0,#0xF90
    strb r1,[r0,#+0x0]

Yes you can produce listings of assembled source. Here's the command line you will want:
    arm-eabi-as -o source.o -mlittle-endian source.asm -al
