Gaming Can't go online on pokemon moon?

A friend of my has a 3ds on 11.2 it has homebrew on it that's it and she's trying to go online on pokemon moon but it keeps asking her to update her 3ds to use the service?? Are you no longer to go online on pokemon moon without being on the latest firmware?? She try using ctr-httpwn but that isn't working

Install CFW and then update. IIRC CTRHttpwn doesn't work on that game after the 1.2 update and the program itself was patched in 11.4
