I was curious how to determine if a new PsP was safe or not to buy and fully hack or at least to play EMUs and PsP games.

Thinking of just getting a new 3000 model at local target or gamestop.

Oh ok. My concern was the 6.60 limit. Will there be NEW PSPs on store shelves that have higher firmware?

My other concern: will SNES and GBA games be full speed? Or should I go with another portable? (Just buy a GBA SP, for example)

Nothing higher than 6.60 and its hacked. GBA is really good, SNES is hit or miss especially with special chip games like starfox.
Maybe try GCW-Zero for SNES if that's really important for you in a portable. (I think you'll be happier with PSP)

Once I insert the memory stick, can i transfer everything via USB or do I have to remove the Memory stick and get a USB adapter to hook the Memory to a PC?
