It doesn't work like that, unfortunately. The chip inside the system itself is only capable of outputting, at maximum, component. Any accessory you see of Wii or Gamecube to HDMI is either relying on your TV to just upscale the output (would look lousy), or I'm guessing one might have something in the adapter to convert, but I don't think I've seen that.

You can totally mod the hardware itself to use HDMI. Just need to know how to solder properly and not destroy anything.
