Im lookin for a good dpg converter that has good quility and doesn't take up alot of space on my hard drive. I don't like batch dpg because you need avisynth or super because it takes up alot of space. That leaves xilisoft dpg or dpg tools that comes with moonshell. I heard that dpg tools quility isn't the best so im wondering if that has changed in recent versions. How good is xilisoft dpg?

Also is there any dpg converter that can run in linux through wine? I tryed xilisoft and dpg tools and xilisoft wouldn't load but dpg tools did but when I tryed to convert a video I got an error message but I couldn't make it out due to the bad English

xillisoft: http://www.xilisoft.com/dpg-converter.html

SUPER: http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html

DPGtools: past of moonshell downloads. Quality is not as good as some of the others but it is based on much of the same tools as the other encoders and if you fiddle with things you can get a good result.

batchDPG: several forked versions although AVIsynth lies at the heart of all of them. IamGhost does the most up to date fork although I do not think it has been updated since mid last year:

EZBuilder: Best method I know of other than by hand, made by abraxas who also did a proof of concept MPEG4 ASP decoder for the DS.
http://abraxas.no-ip.org/ezbuilder_en/

by hand: either manual or with scripts (linux scripts exist). It got kind of complex when the indexing was added (earlier DPG versions were just a header, an MP2 file and a MPEG1 video file where now it is header mp2 or OGG MPEG1 video and custom index*).

If you can get it working and know you way around an encoder it is the best method but then again anyone with a bit of knowledge can beat an automated encoder.
*it is just a little app that makes it which should run under WINE.

As for linux I did see a way to get AVIsynth working in some form the other day, I have not set up a test box yet and how I could get it working with batchDPG I do not quite know:

the dpg tools that comes with the moonshell 2.0 beta is really nice, its quality has improved alot and even adds a thumbnail on the top screen while the dpg file is selected

Another vote for the latest DPGENC (DPGTools).

Wouldn't bother with anything else anymore as DPGENC now produces the best encodes for playback on Moonshell 2.0 Stable.

ok I tried to run dpg tools in linux with wine and it gives me some sort of direct show error which I can't make out due to the bad translation. anyone have any advice on how to fix it?
Also I found an online video converter that can convert to dpg as long as the filesize is under 200mb
http://www.media-convert.com/ (dont go under preset and select Nintendo ds manually select the filetype)
not sure about the quality though

There actually is one more called "DPGmux" which mostly uses batch scripts in Windows for operation (drag and drop the video file onto the appropriate batch file and it outputs the .dpg file for you). It works *really* quickly, but the video quality is rather lacking and the filesize could be better. Fun for testing, but not really useful as a serious DPG converter.

i got the dpg encoder by xilisoft, it works great and isnt as buggy as the moonshell one(even though i havent tried that out since beta 9 or so). The quality is great and you can customize a lot of options for the videos.

after having trouble with dpg tools I got xilisoft to work and it works great. I converted a whole movie in around an hour in the highest quality. Whats the best fps for a normal movie?

I just stumbled across Wondershare DPG - has anyone tried it? Before now I've never converted many movies but I always just used BatchDPG (when I was on windows). Anyhow considering its only a tiny screen I generally don't care about quality so I'm just after what's fastest, so I'll hijack this topic and ask you guys what ya think is fastest?

Also Wondershare DPG homepage:

There's another converter, the branded one from i-cheat, which appears to be some kind of Games 'n' Music type dealy based on Moonshell. I started using it when I discovered it could convert directly from VOB to DPG. Unfortunately it gives you zero options with regards to quality, framerate, etc., but it results in videos of decent quality.

It's by far the ImTOO DPG Converter.

Try it, and you'll see the difference.
But it's paid, unless you use your good ol' friend Google

xilisoft and IMtoo are the same company, thats why they look the exact same, and i find converting videos at a video bitrate of 448, audio bitrate of 128, and fps of 24 works great if you want good quality videos (the previous settings work without ram expansion).

my video seems to lag it one spot but its fine mostly everywhere else would turning down the bitrate or fps help? or should it be truned up it currently has an fps of 24 and a bitrate of 1024 I think. The video is pirates of the Caribbean curse of the black pearl btw and the part where it lags is when will and jack just steal the ship and are talkin about wills father.

I find Super gives better video quality compared to dpgtools but Super can't do GOP tables which makes fastforwarding far far faster..
