I recently found a copy of maplestory for the DS in Korean. Would it be region free to play on my 2DS? Or are they like iQue games and need a special language set?

but it will only work on another DS - not on a 3DS/2DS.
why wouldn't a ds game/korean ds game work on a 3ds?
if it was a korean dsi game (if any exist) yes, it should only work on a korean 3ds.
but if it's just a normal ds game, it should be fine.

Yeah, sorry you're right. I amended my post.

Depending upon what the OP read prior to making the thread the subject of ique (Chinese model of DS) games might have come up and those were locked to the ique, not well and not in any way that matters but enough that without something special you are not going to be able to pop a cart in the average DS.
There were also a few games that came out in the US and were limited to English despite the internal game files having many more languages, not to mention things like the Advance Wars Days of Ruin/Dark Conflict stuff ( http://gbatemp.net/threads/advance-wars-days-of-ruin-dark-conflict-language-mod.254868/ ) and Go! Go! Cosmo Cops! ( http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/1008/ ).

well one day I saw an corean DSlite selling for a good price, but I wasn't sure if i would buy it because I don't know if it could read game other than korean? I know we can't change the menu language, right? ( so if a game had another language I could not acess it ? like sonic, if I have the japanese game and have the menu in english I will get a nice undub XD )
I remeber people with japanese mario kart and pokemon that had problens trying to link with other people with other regions, it in local wireless

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way

    For your R4
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
It's old but it's the best firmware out for DS stuff
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
it says it only works for the original R4, R4i Gold (r4ids.cn), R4iDSN (r4idsn.com) and Acekard R.P.G.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    nvm it does support mine
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:

  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Just give it a try, but honestly if you have a 3DS you can play DS games without a card just off the internal SD card
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Slightly slower loading but a bit more convenient
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
