The way I removed it manually was by using a live linux disc.

Booted Linux, navigated to the windows/system32 directory, sorted by date and found the dubious DLLs (random names that didnt match the Windows standards e.g. xxtytreecd.dll). Then renamed them. Rebooted machine in safe mode. Got a few registry errors as they couldn't find the DLLs anymore. Then ran regedit to clean those values out.

One thing to be aware of is that a part of the virus attaches itself to the windows logon authentication and if you delete the entire key - you will not be able to logon anymore (just delete the addition to the key).
i.e. value will now be something like: 040,notify, xxxgtttbv.dll
You just delete the ,xxxgtttbv.dll part
