That's awesomeThey're releasing an amiibo add-on for the 3ds too.
Skylanders/Disney infinity bullshit.What.. is this??
No, it's double the price of the regular Skylanders figures. The Swap Force ones are about the same price IIRC.Eh, that's about double the price of the Skylanders series.
Would have expected a sub £10 price range for all the characters..
Sure, but these are the standard characters, too. Probably getting a character or two for the figure itself, but personally I find the amiibo an odd addition to Nintendo's games. Only time will tell how they're actually used instead of just what has been shown for smashNo, it's double the price of the regular Skylanders figures. Honestly I'll probably end up buying one at some point, not even because of the functionality but simply because they're nice figures.
a waste of $$$$What.. is this??

Edit: Where's Sonic?! He's part of Smash Bros. as well as a Nintendo character nowadays, oh and Mega Man??
I get that amiibo is sort of a modern version of the memory card with special features in certain games when connected (e.g. the "Figurine Player" in SSBU). Though one question that I have, which I haven't seen anyone else ask is, how durable are amiibo figures? My friend collects Skylanders and Disney Infinity figures and has managed to break some of them already. Judging from the pictures the amiibo have a thick base (with NFC connectivity) and a clear, probably plastic, rod that keeps the actual figure attached to the base. Some amiibo don't even have figures touching the base, being supported only by the rod (e.g. Link and Kid Icarus). So unless that rod supporting the figures is made out of Nintendium or some other indestructible material, I'm not buying amiibo figures. Taking them with you to a friend would pose a challenge: how are you going to transport the amiibo figures safely? I have a feeling if you throw them in your bag, they'll get destroyed in the process. At least that's how fragile the Skylanders and Disney Infinity figures are in my experience.
