3ds SHOULD have enough horsepower to do SNES emulation rather well, with the possible exception of a couple of the more elaborate chipsets (street fighter alpha 2, star ocean, and megaman x games beyond the first one come to mind). It's probably going to be a few months before we see ANY form of a snes emulator at all, and it'll take a while to really get caught up to where it needs to be for it to be usable most likely.
Foxi4 yes, smartphones have had an increase in popularity, however there's also the factor of physical controls. Especially with timing sensitive games (fighters, shoot em up's, etc) smartphone development only goes so far before requiring a (usually) expensive 3rd party add-on to have proper physical controls. For security measures, I'll absolutely agree with that. Consoles as a whole seem to be getting more and more complex as far as security measures, although that also means more potential for a slip up somewhere along the lines (see the Wii's RSA signature fail for details).
