Is it possible to play 2ds roms on a 3ds? I've searched a bit and haven't found an answer, only people showing how to do it with an "R4 flash card" which I don't have or have the money for.

There's no such thing as a 2DS ROM lmao, it's 3DS Roms. A 2DS is a 3DS w/o 3D functionality. Therefore they are 100% compatible with each other.

You don't need an r4 cart to play backups. Check out HTTP://www.3ds.guide to hack your 3ds to play Roms. You can either be a pirate and use freeshop, or you can dump your own cias (3ds Roms) with FBI.

Yes, you can, there are two methods that I know of:
1. Buying an R4i card for your 3ds (this is easiest and most reliable but it costs money).

2. Installing cfw onto your 3ds and then installing TWL loader (It's basically a DS game emulator for your 3ds, it costs no money but so far the program isn't running perfectly and many ds games don't work with it and and the ones that do have 5+ minute loading times).

Installing cfw to your 3ds has the potential to brick it and twl loader doesn't work well at the moment so your best bet would be an r4i card that you can get for around 14 dollars. I don't know any other alternatives.

Yes, you can play DS carts on a 3DS

All sarcasm aside, if you install a CFW to your 3ds, you can play NDS backups. Your DS has to be a "New" 3DS though. DeSemuMe or whatever it's called doesn't run on the original 3ds.
