Super Mario All-Stars revival hitting Japanese shores
For the Wii, of course

The original Super Mario Bros. was first released in 1985. This is meaningful to you because it would make 2010 the 25th anniversary of the series, and that has apparently compelled Nintendo to celebrate by readying a revival of Super Mario All-Stars for the Wii...at least in Japan.

Andriasang reports that Nintendo held a retailer briefing in Japan recently, with news leaking out that they plan to release "Super Mario Collection Special Pack" on the Wii on October 21. Presumably this will include the same compellation of Mario games -- 1, 2, 3, and "Lost Levels" -- as Super Mario All-Stars did for the SNES, which was, indeed, originally called Super Mario Collection in Japan. But the "Special Pack" part refers to a bonus item called "Super Mario History 1985 - 2010." This includes a booklet covering the history of the Mario series over the past 25 years with never-before-seen development material, and a soundtrack CD with music from the series spanning from the first game all the way up to Super Mario Galaxy 2.

Keep in mind Nintendo hasn't actually confirmed this themselves yet, but the leaks from retailers supposedly involved in the briefing say Super Mario Collection Special Pack will sell in Japan for ¥2,500 -- which is just about a reasonable $30. There's no indication whether Nintendo also plans to release the same collection in North America, but let's keep our fingers crossed.

I'm wondering if this will be a straight-up emulation of the original games, a remake of them, or something else. Having the originals remade in a New Super Mario Bros. fashion would be interesting. Regardless, keep your eyes peeled for the Japanese version in October.

This looks interesting.
If it's a remake I'll definitely buy it.

I also wonder if it will be emulation or remakes... Because, those games with New Super Mario Bros. Wii graphics, well, would be fun smile.gif

Curiouser and curiouser.
Although with my GP2X Caanoo and my DStwo, I'll soon have two very nice systems to emulate this SNES classic on.

if it's just snes emulations, i don't think i'll get it AGAIN.
but if it's NSMB-esque i'll totally buy it!
or maybe even better; a 2.5D remake but in the style of the original games 8D!

Nintendo has confirmed this.
21 October : First game name :
Jap : スーパーマリオコレクション スペシャルパック(任天堂)
Trans : Super Mario Collection Special Pack (Nintendo)

My opinion :
It must be a real remake in the style of NSMBWii, because i don't see why just emulation, or this would be a BIG RIPOFF.

Considering the price and the helping of goods it comes with, I very much doubt there'll be any massive changes. Maybe they'll include emulations of the original games in addition to the standard SNES collection but I doubt it'd go much further.

judging by price, its a big waste of time to be honest, it'll be emulation for sure.

If it's a remake, I'll buy it. If it isn't I'm not so sure. Oh that's if it even comes to the US.

Won't be remakes at all, Nintendo could easily sell them seperatly remade plus SMB2 USA would need changes to the engine.

That's a bit silly, though.
We already have Virtual Console for the Wii.

I'd still get it though if only for the bonus items if it came to NA/EU.

Well, getting all 4 games in the collection on the Virtual Console is $23, the collection is $30 with that "History of Mario" thing and the music. Plus these are the SNES versions (provided it emulates the SNES versions) which are slightly revamped versions of the originals.
