Homebrew Post Homebrew ideas, suggestion, requests here

small personal pet peeve thing: I'd like to see someone do a patch/code/whatever for the 64 zelda remakes that simply added an aiming reticle for the distance weapons (eg, bow, hookshots, slingshot, boomerang). Just something that actually shows where you're aiming at all times. yes, I'm...

    The MIG Switch Thread

I want to know if unlock switch is planning on selling a dumper as well. they do seem to be coyly hinting that they are indeed going to add a switch to the cart, which apparently only needs to break the circuit on a pin or two for a second to work. Also I just looked up their twitter and...

You are correct. from what I've seen it's just too new for any real data to start coming out, and nobody outside the company walls has any idea how the cert files are checked. We do know the games still run fine if the certs don't match however. It is totally possible that they have...

Further information about the upcoming Nintendo Switch "Mig Switch" flashcart has been revealed

Rumor has it a new cart called "unlock switch" is in the works that appears to be a flat clone of the mig. Could just be a resale scam with new stickers on the carts for all we know now though.

Yeah I get that. I'm just under the impression that the cert file is likely what ninty is set up to check for with roms. And as initial tests are giving the appearance that the cert doesn't have to actually match the game inside the data, (not to mention both the oft-talked about used/rental...

Basically so far the end answer is it seems it's mostly useless if you don't have a donor cert file for your personal use to amend to your downloads, and the safest way to do that is to have the dumper and grab it off of one of the carts you physically own rather than get one from someone else...

Also, while it's still early to say anything with certainty, it still looks a heck of a lot like the switch doesn't care if the cert data matches the game it's on, just the titles, and things run fine. Like, Big N might be waiting to draw in maximum hits with one swoop, but if not, the smart...

    The MIG Switch Thread

I may be completely off base here, bear in mind I totally don't know what I'm talking about (as usual), but if you were to convert an nsp file to an xci, would that fall under what's counted as trimmed or modified so that the cart can't read it, even with a donor cert file? I'm thinking...

sure hope whatever follows the mig down the line has a more elegant way to switch games. even a toggle button on top. the whole eject and reinsert business really just sounds like a recipe to easily break things.

I just watched that vid. The real amazing point is when he hooks it up to his hacked switch to use as a plain card reader with a real cart of minecraft, playing on I think yuzu (that's what the icon looked like to me) and it played significantly better than when the same cart was played...

Yuzu emulator shutting down, paying Nintendo 2.4 million in lawsuit settlement

"acting like". Nintendo has distanced itself from them in the past 40 years but they were tight once upon a time, and that's a sort of thing you can't really permanently leave. I've also heard that Sega works actively with the clans when making the Like a Dragon games, so as not to do...

Initial Mig Switch flashcart units now available and being tested by reviewers

man, even if the mig turns out "safe" to use, I still plan on giving a wide berth between release and purchase for all the kinks to be ironed out, and it's still killing me waiting to hear anything about this. Also, I'm still really curious to see real world, practical testing of the whole...

Yuzu emulator shutting down, paying Nintendo 2.4 million in lawsuit settlement

By the patreon being one of the smoking guns, I don't mean strictly they had a patreon, most of the emus these days do, but more how they used it, creating it as a sort of storefront to purchase early access builds in essence. I've not investigated the early access model or even their discord...

Yuzu emulator shutting down, paying Nintendo 2.4 million in lawsuit settlement

well this sucks. Everyone is pointing out the patreon as a smoking gun but I think just as much it was bunnei running their mouth about 0-day release compatibility and using it for pirating purposes and the like. This isn't 1998, you can't just say things on the internet and expect no paper...

Nintendo is suing the Yuzu emulator team

I will say, just a cursory looking up of Tropic Haze LLC's lawyer, he's not some fly by night strip mall Lionel Hutz type, this is a guy nationally recognized for his work in corporate law, with licenses to practice in three states. Like, who knows what their game-plan is, maybe they will...

have the yuzu people released any sort of statement in response to this yet? do we know what kind of legal defense resources they have?

Nintendo is suing the Yuzu emulator team

i am not a lawyer in any way shape or form, but like others have said it feels like nintendo has a very shaky case at best and is mostly attempting intimidation here, and similar tactics you see in say, SLAPP suits, of attempting to either cow the defendant into settlement, or legally drown them...

Further information about the upcoming Nintendo Switch "Mig Switch" flashcart has been revealed

ARG showed it in one of his vids that the loading screens are like, twice as long as actual carts, but keep in mind that's like, 4 seconds instead of 2, and the game run speed is still the same. So it's not a huge deal in my eyes.

Initial Mig Switch flashcart units now available and being tested by reviewers

still counts as taking money from nintendo enough that I'm fairly certain that either the mig people will update the firmware asap to curtail that or it's not going to last long on the market. The video gives the impression they didn't know the cart could do however it works. That vid also...

Initial Mig Switch flashcart units now available and being tested by reviewers

Another person here who's been absent for so long but getting pulled back in by this news Anyways, looking at Alien Retro Gaming's videos testing the cart, it sounds like the console itself doesn't care if your cert file is a match for the game it's attached to, merely that it exists...
