I have a couple questions about the signature rules.

1. "You may go under and but NOT over the 500x150 pixel guideline. No exceptions."

What if I have a gif with a resolution of 400x240 but I put it into a spoiler tag? The picture would be to big but you would also only see it if you open the spoiler. Would it be allowed?

2. "The maximum combined file size for all graphics in a member's avatar and signature is: 80KB"

Again the thing with the gif. The file size of it is about 1,15MB (1.157KB) but the rules say that the profile picture AND the signature together should be not more than 80KB. Apparently my profile picture is 45KB big which means my signature is allowed to contain a 35KB picture. Here we have the same problem: What if I put my gif into a spoiler tag? Would it be ok to use a gif that is theoretical to big?

Hope someone can help me with that. :)

Spoilers would be skirting the rules but you would probably be OK. The vertical size is the bigger issue as we don't want people to have to scroll more than they have to. If they have to click on the spoiler to see it then that does not trouble that.
If you can rejig it to be within size then that is better still.

The file size thing is because many of us are still on dial up, mobile connections, limited bandwidth connections (60 Euros a month in Australia gets you 400 gigabytes, and that is a new offer as it was previously 200 gigs), less potent machines (large GIFs + firefox is not a winning combination). As you could not guarantee the GIF would not download and play then it can't be done. When it was flash signatures you could click and load things for it was different but this is not that.
If you want to link to the animation then so be it, no embedding though.
