Gameboy color cartridge battery

Hi,

Since I'm new to GBC world of batteries, I got interested into it. So, my question is, when should I change battery of game to avoid losing save file? Is it possible to lose save file if battery dries out? For example, my battery dries out and using GBA method to replace battery, will I save save file or I should replace battery before it dries out?

When the battery dries out, the save will be erased. If you swap while the battery is still working, the save will be erased when you take the original battery out. If you can get something to back up your save then that's helpful, because then you can just put it back after you're done, but I think there's some way to keep it powered for the whole process of swapping batteries so you don't lose it.

It's possible to keep it powered with GBA. Just replace battery while running game on GBA and then save it once the process has been completed.

Change the battery while the game is in gbc and running? I'd like to see someone do that. Not saying it wouldn't work, but I can't imagine how you'd manage to do that without damaging something.

I have this thing called a Mega Memory Card that backs up gb and gbc saves. I got it at the swap meet for 2 bucks. It's very useful.

Yeah I would go with invaderyoyo. That's what I used when I replaced all my GBC batteries. I used a retrode when replacing all my SNES batteries.
