i think its a good idea to have 2 os on 1 device. android has so many uses from office, plenty of tools and games. actually android is a must..

-VIDEO STREAMING SITE APP-
like netflix, amazon, or even the non legit app like netflix that has so many content from anime, drama series to hollywood movie

-EMULATOR,EMULATOR,EMULATOR-
ppsspp,dolphin,ps2play,damon,mame,nes,snes,genesis,dreamcast,n64,ds,scummvm,winemu(diablo2,fallout2,redalert,Starcraft).

-AAA/PORTED GAMES-
Bully,GTASA,Resident Evil,Square Enix Games,Portal,Telltale Games,Vainglory,Borderlands,Shovel,Metal Gear:Rev,Titan Quest,Shadowrun,

so why not? android has so possibilities but the problem for now is how? no source

I figure that even if we do get this working, there will be so many incompatibility and problems that people will lose interest in the project long before it is made functional - if that's even possible.

Plus it won't play Zelda or SSB Switch

The Switch lacks some things like a camera or GPS but I can see Android running on it at some point but I highly doubt anyone is already working on it.

I don't care for the "You already have your Android phone with you" point. Some games would be more enjoyable on a bigger screen (Switch > most phones, even my S8+) so yeah, I'm absolutely in for Android on the Switch. Plus I'd love to play some Android games with the JoyCons.
By the way almost all emulators would work in an instant (more or less) on the Switch in their Android version if there's Android. I'd prefer a native Switch RetroArch though.

As I wrote before in various threads there are two ways:
  1. Dual boot (Switch OS and Android)
  2. Running APKs from within Switch OS
This could be achieved by some kind of framework or AINE (Aine is not an emulator). You got it, right? I'm lookin' at you, WINE. What WINE does is redirecting calls a Windows application gives to the Linux system. So it's not really an emulator.
That means if we're running APKs in Switch OS, everything they are asking for could be redirected to the Switch OS libraries/processes/hardware/whatever.
Only time can tell what will happen.

Android on switch is a stupid idea to begin with. Most emulators have source code open for the public. which means android isn't needed, somebody just needs to port it. And I'm also sure video streaming sites will probably be on the switch soon considering it's shaping up to being the best selling Nintendo console of all time, and it would be a smart decision to do so to cash in on the switch craze. And there's rainway, which lets you play games like Half-Life 1 & 2 or Portal. Also it may have already been said, but many high-end tablets exist made by nVidia that are big and high-end. We really don't need Android OS on switch.

If you wanted an Android tablet you should have bought a Nvidia shield.
Pretty much this. Nintendo will inevitably do some virtual console shit and media that will probably satisfy these requests anyways. They probably wouldn't do something like this anyways since it could lead to people exploiting the hardware given how open Android is, assuming they don't lock it down to fuck and back, and would probably just lead to people pirating games to emulate. It's sort of like asking why Rokus and Fire Sticks don't come with Kodi pre-installed.

This. Who needs a garbage os on their switch¿ Imagine connecting the switch to pc and find out the internal storage is full of Android garbage folders. Brrr
it sia garbage OS for sure but i still want it i want to get the maximum out of my devices
i do not own an android TV box just fire sticks which have no play services on them so i can not run paid apps even if sideloaded

this would be a unique device because all cell phones and most likely all tablets are designed by retards who can't into power management

what i mean is you can't leave a cell phone plugged into a charger and have it run off the AC , the geniuses who design these house fires in their infinite wisdom decided to make it so instead doing what most normal battery powered portable electronics do ,(like the 3ds for one example) Ie
charge the battery up to full and then cut it off from the charge circuit and run the device from the AC they make it so the device runs only from the battery , the battery runs down and then it charges it back up again even when it is plugged in ,eventually it explodes or catches fire ,wonderful

this will not be a problem with the switch

i learned this the hard way running some bridge apps that need to be on a device that is on all the time
i ended up hot wiring an old phone for these apps but just yesterday it went bad again , ran for months no problems but now will not stay booted
i changed nothing ,it just won't stay powered anymore , had this issue before it is fickle as fuck ,i powered it by connecting the charger to the battery contacts and the usb and using a resistor on the temp pin , but it is still crap shoot if it will stay up and not shut down

with the switch you get both an android tv box that can run kodi and bridge apps and a portable tablet
an android device that is both portable and able to be left on all the time powered by AC without exploding

I really considered getting one of those controllers but they dont open wide enough for a tablet :/

Now... for those of you coming up with all these BS reasons why the Switch cant handle Android... You guys do know that the Switch is just a Shield TV with an extra gig of RAM, right?! Sure I'm making it sound simple but the damn SOC is exactly the same as the Shield TV. A port is not impossible. My concern is that I was told by another forum member, Nintendo did a slight modification to the HDMI out so we might not be able to get 4K Netflix, YouTube and KODI.

If you wanted an Android tablet you should have bought a Nvidia shield.
I have a Nvidia shield tablet and I almost never play games on it... Specially because I don't have a Nvidia controller and using the ones I have from consoles via USB suck since the tablet battery dies so fast...

I also can use my DS4 via Bluetooth but requires a Bluetooth app or it lags after 30 seconds and the app for using ds3\ds4 on android requires root and I only rooted my old crap phone and I won't root my tablet just for it.

Also most android games suck and the good ones like borderlands or doom would probably require root since no one cracked them...

And even with the shield controller I would not want to go to a bar with it...

If Nvidia shield tablet had its own built in controllers, then he'll yeah, I would be playing android games...

Switch with dual boot would be awesome having the whole android apps and also enjoying latest triple A Switch games...

Ps: I think later in time someone might get the Nvidia shield TV kernel running on Switch, because I think this is the best portable gaming only console ever made and everyone will go crazy about it and when fully hacked ppl will start with crazy projects, hell even XBMC as main OS like Xbox original would be crazy...

Having a source code for an emulator does not mean it's easy to port. There must be drivers/libraries available for the Switch OS (something libtransistor and libnx are aiming at but they are still in development). I'm following and loving Rainway ever since it was announced. I'm hyped about it. But for now it seems to be completely horrible.
And only because you don't need Android on your Switch (which is okay) does not mean "we" don't need it.

If you wanted an Android tablet you should have bought a Nvidia shield.

Oh really? Are you carrying a flashlight, a paper calendar, a calculator and everything else that's bundled in one device (smartphone) with you all the time? Or do you just take your smartphone as it has all this "on board"?
I guess you got it. Why the hell would I buy a Nvidia shield (or any Android tablet) if I can enjoy the few Android games I play on a device (the Switch) that I'm taking with me to the train/vacation/whatever anyway?
Also the price for the Switch is pretty neat compared to other Android devices with less powerful CPUs than the Tegra X1.

I wouldn't count on that. Did Nintendo ever satisfy such needs in the past?
They picked (!) a few games to be released on VC. The never gave us a media player on the Wii or Wii U.
You don't need one? That's fine. I do. And after being a long time member of gbatemp I know that I'm not alone.

Here we go again

Why do we need Android when the majority of people own a smart device anyway?
Because i could use the switch as my multimedia tablet for controlling my Home and other devices or to stream Youtube to my TV.

You have a massive Playstore from where you have a wide-range of free apps.

And if take my Switch with me i also have a suitable tablet for reading or hearing music while my smartphone can chill and save battery.

It's easy to understand - emulators and stuff comes from switch homebrew (as it mostly have the best button assignments and you don't need much to configure around - props to the devs!) - multimedia, browsing and other stuff can come from android-NX or how you want to call it.

Heck maybe it would be even possible to attach a mouse and a keyboard trough the usb-c port.

I'm totally in if somebody needs a beta-tester: i do now how to atleast enable/connect to adb-shell or do stuff like adb push and pull from my smartphone experience.
But i don't know anything of programming :P

In my case it would be grand for three reasons.

1. Controlling your home from the switch
2. Spotify Streaming to WLAN Speakers
3. Moonlight to stream an Nvidia Gaming PC to the Switch

Disregarding EVERYTHING else that's been said in this thread, I'm just gonna argue everyone saying stuff about how there's gotta be drivers made for the Switch for Android and that there's no use for it and yadda yadda.
Clearly people want to do it be it for the novelty or maybe they're really fucking poor or even kids with crappy phones that can't get a tablet or want to utilize the hardware in a different way. The Switch has things that Android phones and tablets don't usually have and that's TV out. Plus the joy-con (while needing drivers) would be great with it.

Also, the Switch is using off the shelf parts for Christ's sake. Any worries about not having drivers are kind of unfounded considering the Switch is QUITE LITERALLY a downclocked Nvidia Shield TV with a screen and battery as far as hardware goes. And also said on the switch's security presentation, the Tegra X1 has a devkit of it's own - the Jetsom - and that actually contributed to cracking the Switch. It also is used for writing code like Android OSes and programs for it. People REALLY don't seem to know just HOW not unique the Switch really is.
