PS4 now has a public backup loader for FW 4.05

The PlayStation 4 scene has been incredibly active lately, with new homebrew announcements and projects being constantly teased. Now, less than a week after the release of the PS4 homebrew loader, PS4HEN, there's something big that will most certainly grab people's attention; the public release of a backup loader for PlayStation 4 systems that are on firmware version 4.05. The method to using backups is quite similar to how one enables homebrew on PS4HEN, which you can read more about here. Run the kernal exploit, inject the payload, put the pkg file onto a USB drive, disable your internet connection to your PS4, and install via the package installer. This will allow people to load backups of their games, so long as they are decrypted, and run through a tool called PKG Kitchen, which turns the game into a pkg file, that in turn, allows you to install it to your PS4. This is not an end-all-be-all tool, however, as only games that are on firmware 4.05 or less will work, meaning most games from 2017 and beyond will not work. For reference, Gravity Rush 2 is the last 4.05 title, and launched at the very start of 2017.

Amazon still has new ps4 3.51 for $315 so its not too hard to find

And when in doubt you still got plenty of Gamestop bundles. The real problem here is finding PS4 Pro units on <4.05. You'd need to find a launch unit. I had one when it came out, though I returned it, because I didn't see the point in letting it sit for an unknown amount of time. Now I have a 4.05 Slim and I'm fine with it.

Wow, look at me. For the first time, I have a console (ps4) updated to the latest firmware and with physical copies of all my games (i.e: this is the first time where I don't pirate). Feel proud of myself.

I have seen a jb on the latest fw so the non launch pros will have to wait more then likely for the eol

Any way to still get one working? I don't even get an SD card adapter with a 64GB card to work... The same setup worked fine on my Wii U.
get one of what working? are you asking about ps4 stuff? :)
do you mean you don't have a big usb drive to put the pkg files on to install? or something like that?

Basically, 1:1 backups almost guarantee for 100% compatibility (and it's used for digital preservation) thanks to them being encrypted.
oh i see..
yes alot of vita dumps had issues for me , and some had save issues for alot of people.
and well the newer games would not ever work on the fw we were stuck with.

i think it will turn out to be the same thing on the ps4 then, that won't be something for me.

i always need to have online functions , i play overwatch almost every day.

Exactly. Well, now I have one, but only because I just bought one. Still transferring the file before testing if it works.
I know that PS4 stuff isn't exactly your field, but maybe there's something in common with other consoles that might help.

with ps3 we could install pkg files from the internal storage.
probably, soon we will be able to do this with ps4 too :)
so, ftp the pkg to the ps4, then install.

but at the moment, it's not possible.

i did some messing about n think i found their pkg directory. They hid it this time. I will do some testing soon to confirm I did find the external usb mount point tho that I can tell you.

that sounds great...! :) good luck
even if it can't be 'found' or doesn't work though, i'm sure we will be able to patch something to redirect it to internal, or even just use have some multiman type app that uses the native install functions from a file explorer.
