1 - Every electronic devices sold, even in grey market, gets a anti tamper sticker with the store info. There was only 2 times I've bought something that didn't received such stickers because the store keep records of serial numbers and know where the original anti tamper stickers were. So in case of Nintendo Switch? It will receive anti tamper stickers, sometimes lots of them.
2 - They care because even the grey market offer some type of warranty, and they surely wants to avoid warranties if they can show any misuse and attempts to dismantle the device by the consumer.
3 - Most stores can't ship directly to Nintendo, right now, all and every Nintendo hardware sold in Brazil are either officially imported by small companies (and they are the most expensive options) or comes from grey market, and those sold in grey market are either bought in Paraguay (another country), so in most cases the Brazilian store must bring back damaged consoles to Paraguay to attempt replacements.
just curious what prevents you from ordering from other countries like the US?
customs?

I guess nothing really, except for incredibly high import taxes, and an unreliable (prone to theft) post service.

Also perhaps the post service for imports is as cumbersome to use as in Argentina, where you have to fill a myriad of papers and do perhaps a month of bureaucracy to be able to -pay- the import tax and get the damn parcel (that you also have to go get yourself to far away custom offices in many cases).

PS: damn customs, good thing I don't live there anymore, fucking nightmare.

Yup. The simplified process to import using mail services works in this way:
- Are exempt of taxes items that are gifts between actual persons (no store or juridic person involved in any end) that the sum of Item cost + insurance + delivery costs are 50 USD or less. There are some mass lawsuits (or similar) that are trying to raise the limit to 100 USD and include items bought at stores.
- Are exempt of taxes books, magazines, medicines and some other items.
- In case of not being exempt, the taxes: Federal Import Tax = 0,60*(item + insurance + delivery costs) + Internal State tax + 12 BRL (paid to our mail company, Correios, ran by the government).
There are some States that doesn't have their own taxes in this import process (São Paulo, where I live doesn't charge those), but in most cases they are calculated like this: Internal State Tax = 0,X * (item cost + insurance + delivery costs + FEDERAL IMPORT TAX), yes the states may charge you over the Federal Import Taxes.
Essentially, it may be cost prohibitive to import consoles over mail. Also most brazilians buy such expensive items using small loans with monthly payments and a small interest rate (I dunno the proper-and-short word in english for this, sorry), but buying over mail are mostly done in a unique payment, also the government won't break down the taxes in small periodic payment options.

And finally, if the worst come and the console actually breaks, we pay a lot to send it overseas (there isn't any cheap option to send parcels overseas), and will surely pay import taxes again when the console comes back from the USA.

And what I've explained apparently is the cheaper import process to use when buying game consoles. Doing in the "proper process" gets expensive because in this case you must fill numerous forms, will always pay internal state taxes, and require going to actual customs offices that may be far away from where you live.
In the simplified process it's kinda of automatic to the buyer, only requiring that you go to the mail office that got your package to pay the tax and get the item, eventually Brazil will implement a system where all and every tax charged over mail importing can be paid using bank systems, and when the payment is done the package will be sent to the buyer address.
