Juarez? Like Call of Juarez?
I hate that game :).

Anyway in my opinion if your good in life and have a good salary, please buy games and support devs, if you have no money, but you really can't live the same way without enjoying a good game, then just get the backups and forget about it since you would still not buy anything anyway...

When I have money I also usually buy a few games, but I think for months which to buy, now I have no money, so I can't buy anything, so yeah backups all the way...

This is ridiculous. You are talking about gaming as if it's food or shelter. It is not ok to steal games no matter how poor you are simply because you "really want to play".

I can't believe how common entitlement is these days that pirates can't even be honest with themselves about what they're doing. Back in the day we were proud pirates dammit.

Developers should be rewarded for their hard work and paid for their efforts. That was never in question.

The question lies within those who cannot afford to pay for such things. By your reasoning, people who can't afford food should not be entitled enough to think they deserve to eat. Which is obviously wrong.

I have no issue with people who pirate their systems for financial reasons. The people I DO have a problem with, are people that CAN afford to support buyers, but still don't. Personally, the minute my financial situation improved, I stopped pirating completely. I even went through the effort of buying the same games twice to support the same developer which I had previously pirated.

But some people don't support the developers even though they can. That, is where the problem lies, unfortunately.

As far as the "stealing" debate, I believe this speaks for itself:

Piracy is the illicit duplication of a digital medium, the original game, media, etc is still there. You're just making an illegal copy. That's piracy. Yes, it's still illegal, but the original copy of the movie, game, etc is still there, isn't it? Stealing implicates that the original is taken and can't be replaced. People need to calm their tits about people who pirate, and give this a read

I explicitly stated the opposite. Unlike food and shelter, games are not needed for survival. They are a luxury item and therefore it is never morally justified to pirate.

Again, by your reasoning (where only the absolute necessary for survival should be provided with no moral implications), then a person who is struggling in life shouldn't be allowed to:

-Drink a coffee

-Buy a toy for their child

-Have fun

Just three situations that speak for themselves. You can add as many as you like.

You lost me now. Are you saying that if someone can't afford to buy their kids a toy then it's morally ok for them to go out and steal one?

No. I'm saying that if someone can't afford to buy their kids a toy, they should be given one, or at least a way to duplicate the original.

Your child is not at fault for your financial problems, and should be given the minimum necessary to have a a little bit of a happy childhood.

That is what piracy is supposed to be in it's heart.

Now, are there others that abuse and take advantage of this system? Are there people who pirate even though they can easily afford what they are pirating?

Certainly.

This, again, is where the real problem lies. The lack of moral of some people.

Give a man a toy and he can bring joy to 1 child... teach a man to steal toys and he can provide for his whole family.

Lol anyone remember this sort of advert on tv with the fish?

I understand the statement, let's say it's more forgivable than a psychocompletionist that want all da gamezz!!!

As a student I began having backups of games I didn't phisically have...;) but then I began to burn and burn so much showelware (gamecube time) and stopped having fun. not so easy to play it Robin Hood's style.

Alright, I'll say it. Your logic has holes. So.. many... holes..

How can you justify piracy by comparing it to basic necessity? It just doesn't work.

I think we have fundamentally different views on the topic so I'll leave it here. I'm almost a bit speechless from what you wrote to be honest.

Alright. Personally I don't see any holes. What I see, is the differences in what each person here considers morally correct or incorrect.

As for the comparison to basic necessity, @subcon959 is the one who made that comparison initially. I just picked up from there.

I love how offtopic this thread is.
-Arguing semantics
(okay, fine)
-Arguing semantics with someone who is either trolling or an idiot
(not fine)
-Arguing semantics with someone who is either trolling or an idiot, attempting to use logic to "win" against someone who's viewpoint can be summed up as "I'm right because your proof doesn't exist or isn't "valid"."
(*facepalm*)

Anyhow, the *hax devs will chill out after they figure out the latest entry point for 4.1.0 or whatever version we're on now. Drama queens...

What you gonna hack your switch for ? If the answer is emulation, you re stealing too no matter what people say out there. You should never judge the state of mind of a man. Maybe he was sick, maybe he had no friends, maybe he had some family problem, who knows? And everyone talks about piracy being the worst thing in the world but let the country steals your money in so many areas you never know where its coming and going from/to. At least he has got an original way of thinking and today he buys the games he likes other than just copycat what people say out there like ' oh, piracy is illegal' and stuff. I not even know youre from usa or not but it seems like, for your arrogance, you are. People in usa think their the smartest badass superstar in the world, you guys know nothing but how to maintain the mental control you are under.
