Using Luma3DS + Gateway on B9S

SYSNAND-ONLY USERS: DO NOT BOOT GW MODE ON 11.3+ - YOU WILL LOSE B9S AND BE LEFT ON A STOCK FIRMWARE
I highly advise against the use of GW on SysNAND-Only Setups.
GW currently DOES NOT support firmwares 11.3//11.4 - B9S does not change that!
If you're on 11.3+ - Don't even try to use GW. Use Luma3DS or any other CFW that has confirmed support for 11.3+ firmwares.

Setting up GW with Luma3DS' chainloader

Requirements: SysNAND or EmuNAND on 11.2 or lower!
Tested and working on B9S 1.2 (Luma3DS 8.0)
  1. Download the v2gw.zip attached to this post.
  2. Extract the "arm9loaderhax.bin" from v2gw.zip to your /luma/payloads/ folder.
  3. Rename that very "arm9loaderhax.bin" you just extracted to "v2gw.bin" or to whatever you want. However, step 12 will assume v2gw.bin was used, you can edit that reference to meet whatever you decided to name it.
  4. Download GW's ‘arm9loaderhax.bin.zip‘ file.
    • On their main home page. Under the post titled: "GATEWAY 4.0B PRIVATE BETA #2"
    • Or on their openly public Private Beta Program page, on this page it'll be under the "» arm9loaderhax for users with existing a9lh installs" section.
  5. Extract GW's "arm9loaderhax.bin" file from their zip file to your /luma/payloads/ folder.
  6. Rename that very "arm9loaderhax.bin" you just extracted to "gateway.bin"
  7. Make sure you have the latest GW's Launcher.dat on the root of your SD Card.
  8. This dev-build of BootCTR9: https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-the-bootctr9-release-thread.435347/page-3#post-7370533
  9. Extract the "boot.firm" file from the BootCTR9-firmv2.zip to your /luma/payloads/ folder.
  10. Rename that very "boot.firm" you just extracted to "down_BootCTR9.firm" or to whatever you want that is allowed by Luma3DS' payload chainloader.
    - Other button options: https://github.com/AuroraWright/Luma3DS/wiki/Other-features-and-notes#payload-chainloading
  11. Extract the "boot_config.ini" file from from the BootCTR9-firmv2.zip to the root of your SD Card.
  12. Open the "boot_config.ini" file and overwrite everything with the following:
    Code:
    [BOOTCTR9]
    key_delay = 1000

    [DEFAULT]
    path = /luma/payloads/v2gw.bin
  13. You are now done. If you followed this tutorial, holding DPAD-DOWN at boot time, will load up Gateway Mode.
    - SysNAND-Only Users on 11.2 will be prompted to press 'L+R+SELECT' to boot SYSNAND. DO NOT PRESS THE BUTTON PROMPT ON 11.3+
    - GW EmuNAND users will automatically boot into their GW EmuNAND.

FAQ

Q: How do I boot into the GW Menu?
A: Hold L+Select, as soon as you see the Dragon Logo.

Q: Can I use my GW Blue Card?
A: Yes, but only while using Luma3DS. It will not work in GW Mode.

Q: Can I play online while in GW Mode?
A: Yes, sort-of. But you have to either:

Q: I'm getting a black screen!? HELP!?
A: Multiple reasons for that below:
  • Modified SecureInfo_A - GW does not patch this. You'll need an untouched donor file of this.
  • Using a RedNAND - GW only supports GW EmuNAND, it cannot boot RedNAND. Use the GW Menu or GodMode9 to make one.
  • On SysNAND-Only Setups - Not having properly removed EmuNAND//RedNAND. Use GodMode to properly format your SD Card. But I advise you set one up.
  • Trying to boot an 11.3//11.4 EmuNAND - GW does not support anything higher than 11.2
  • If it's not listed, then who knows. Do you have a modified Home Menu or font? Those might not work at all in GW Mode.

I highly advise against the use of GW for SysNAND-Only setups.

11.3&11.4 Break GW. GW currently DOES NOT support 11.3 or 11.4. You will either brick or lose A9LH. More than likely it seems you will just lose A9LH.

Again, if you attempt to boot GW Mode, on a SYSNAND-Only Setup while on 11.3 or 11.4, you will lose A9LH. It does not matter if you safely updated to this firmware via another CFW that safely protects FIRM.

If you want to use 11.3+, you will not be able to use GW. Don't even try. Only use Luma3DS or other CFW that support 11.3+

If you are a Gateway3DS user, and have recently finished Plailect's A9LH Guide, then you should be on v2 A9LH. Unfortunately, at the time this thread was made, GW's a9lh.bin file is incompatible with Luma3DS' payload chainloading feature while on v2 A9LH.

So one way around this was to either forego using Luma3DS' payload chainloading, and use a boot manager that does work in initializing GW's a9lh.bin correctly. Like BootCTR9. Either you let BootCTR9 handle all payloads, or you set it up to chainload into Luma3DS and from there let Luma3DS do all the work.

Either way, some people might not like BootCTR9 (Big fan of BootCTR9, seriously thing is amazing~!)

So if you don't want to use the BootCTR9 method, then @Hayleia made a very stripped down boot manager that only loads /luma/payloads/gateway.bin. You still need GW's a9lh.bin in addition to this stripped down bootmanager, but that's all you need, these two files! No need for messy configs if you just want to stick with Luma3DS' payload chainloader.

Now on to the damn tutorials already~!

Gateway Logo

1. Download the v2gw.zip attached to this post.
2. Extract the "arm9loaderhax.bin" from v2gw.zip to your /luma/payloads/ folder.
3. Rename that very "arm9loaderhax.bin" you just extracted to "down_v2gw.bin" or to whatever you want that is allowed by Luma3DS' payload chainloader.
Other button options: https://github.com/AuroraWright/Luma3DS/wiki/Other-features-and-notes#payload-chainloading
4. Download GW's ‘arm9loaderhax.bin.zip‘ file.
You have to get this directly from Gateway's site. Which is either:
A) On their main home page.
B) Or on their openly public Private Beta Program page, on this page it'll be under the "» arm9loaderhax for users with existing a9lh installs" section.
8. You are now done. If you followed this tutorial, holding DPAD-DOWN at boot time, will load up Gateway Mode.
However, if you are a SysNAND Only User, and on 11.1 and using the 4.2 Launcher.dat, you will be prompted to press 'L+R+SELECT' to boot SYSNAND.
GW EmuNAND users will automatically boot into their GW EmuNAND.

Notes: To Boot into the GW Menu: Hold L+Select, as soon as you see the Dragon Logo.
To Force a Manual Gateway3DS RedCard Update: Hold R+Select as soon as you see the Dragon Logo.

No Gateway Logo (Not Recommend - Only for those allergic to the dragon logo - USE AT YOUR OWN RISK)

Notes: This version will de-init the screen by default, and as such you won't see the Gateway Logo. Don't worry it'll init once you land on the Home. Due to how this works, only GW EmuNAND users should consider using this. This is because SysNAND users will land on the SysNAND prompt nag.

1. Download the v2gw-de-init.zip attached to this post.
2. Extract the "v2gw.bin" from v2gw-de-init.zip to your /luma/payloads/ folder.
3. Rename that very "v2gw2.bin" you just extracted to "down_v2gw.bin" or to whatever you want that is allowed by Luma3DS' payload chainloader.
Other button options: https://github.com/AuroraWright/Luma3DS/wiki/Other-features-and-notes#payload-chainloading
4. Download GW's ‘arm9loaderhax.bin.zip‘ file.
You have to get this directly from Gateway's site. Which is either:
A) On their main home page.
B) Or on their openly public Private Beta Program page, on this page it'll be under the "» arm9loaderhax for users with existing a9lh installs" section.
8. You are now done. If you followed this tutorial, holding DPAD-DOWN at boot time, will load up Gateway Mode without the Gateway Logo.

Tested on N3DS and O3DS by me, 2DS by @Hayleia.
Should work on either screen-init or non-screen-init v2 A9LH.

Important Note: Never update your SysNAND in Gateway Mode. It does not matter what Launcher.dat version you use, if you go ahead and update while in SysNAND Mode, you will either brick or lose A9LH+CFW and be on the latest stock firmware. This is because GW Mode does not offer FIRM protection in A9LH. Updating your GW EmuNAND is fine and safe, and is what Gateway actually recommends you do and use even when using A9LH.

!~Getting Black Screen After Dragon Logo and After Following This Guide~! (PLEASE READ)
Sounds like someone hasn't properly removed their EmuNAND//RedNAND with EmuNAND9. The Black Screen problem is common to people who skipped doing it properly and used a third-party tool like EaseUS or any other partition manager.

Since EmuNAND//RedNAND wasn't removed properly, traces were leftover and GW by default sees it, and tries to boot into this non-existent EmuNAND//RedNAND and fails. So how do we fix it? We use EmuNAND9 to preperly remove traces of it.

Part 5, Section V of the old A9LH guide covers this. However, I will list all relevant steps here.
Link: https://github.com/Plailect/Guide_R...ax)#section-v---removing-rednand-from-your-sd

The new guide also sort of mentions if in this new page, and does show you how to setup EmuNAND9:
Link: https://plailect.github.io/Guide/move-emunand

Files we'll need:
Latest release of EmuNAND9: https://github.com/d0k3/EmuNAND9/releases/latest

1. Copy EmuNAND9.bin from the EmuNAND9.zip to the /luma/payloads/ folder on your SD card and rename EmuNAND9.bin to y_EmuNAND9.bin
2. Backup every file on your SD card to a folder on your computer, all files will be deleted in the following steps
3. Reinsert your SD card into your 3DS
4. Hold (Y) at boot time to open EmuNAND9
5. Go to "SD Format Options...", then select the "Format SD (no EmuNAND)" option, and wait for it to finish
6. Press (B) to return to the menu, then press Select to safely eject your SD Card
7. Put your SD card back into your computer, and copy all the files you backed up previously, back into your SD Card
8. Reinsert your SD card into your 3DS, then press (Start) to reboot

Additional Note: You will still have to look into BootCTR9 if for some reason you want GW to be the default, as opposed to Luma3DS. This tutorial is meant more for the people who want Luma3DS as their main//default, and want to use Luma3DS' payload chainloader to boot into GW Mode.
Go to the following link for the tutorial on setting up GW as your main with BootCTR9.

Hello guys,

I used to have an emuNAND installation with Gateway, but I totally migrated to CFW with Luma and b9s. The problem is I didn't export my .sav files before doing the upgrade. So I'm now running sysNAND CFW on 11.6 (latest update) and everything is working fine, but I can't decrypt my .sav files from my old SD card.

I was wondering if I should downgrade to 11.2 to be able to run the exploit and then get into Gateway mode, but I don't really know how to do that.
I still have a backup of my emuNAND (11.2) and my NAND (9.0) on my PC though.

Any suggestions, or link to guides would be really appreciated ;)

Thanks

Well, if you don't want to format EmuNAND again (I never deleted mine, because to me it was just not worth the hassle to reclaim such a tiny amount of space in the first place), I have an idea that should work. If you migrated your EmuNAND to SysNAND, your current SysNAND should be using the same ID1 as your old EmuNAND. So, if you just want to make a quick trip back to 11.2 to convert a few saves, just backup your ticket file (1:/dbs/ticket.db) to your SD card, then restore your 11.2 backup, then restore your ticket file. All of your recently installed games should then show back up. Connvert your saves, and update back to 11.6.

My InScripted AIO has a "Ticket Master" function in "Options" that can backup and restore your ticket file for you. It might save you some time over doing it manually in GM9. It also has a "Gateway Save Converter Helper" function to assist with converting the saves while we're on the topic. It's on the iso site and the max site if you're interested. Just copy the appropriate configuration from the "Configurations (Sighax)" folder over, hold "down" at boot, and select the "Options" app for these features. You'll also notice I've consolidated the NAND backup and restore scripts into a single app for your convenience.

Still nothing from GW. Because of all the Stargate delays, they're saying mid January now. I don't play my 3DS online (I have a PS4 for that), but from what I've read, many people have been able to get online in GW mode just by updating the friends module to the latest version. You can download it with 3DNUS or any other app that can download and create firmware CIAs. As usual, back your EmuNAND up first in case something goes wrong.

Someone posted a full list of the titles they used to successfully get online working here. I would suggest starting with the friends module, then maybe do Nver and Cver if the friends module alone isn't enough, then try updating Mint and eShop if that still isn't enough, and update the browser stuff last. If you get it working, let me know what you replaced, so I'll know exactly what to tell the next person that asks.

Well, if you want to grab the whole 11.6 firmware set, you would enter "11.6.0-39U" for the US set (change it to E for EUR, J for JPN, etc.). To download individual titles you just enter the title you need and the version. In the case of the friends system module you would enter "0004013000003202 v16384" for example. To figure out what the version number for a specific title you need is, use this site. Select the CFW you want information about, and select the "Titlelist" that matches your region (E is USA and P is EUR, not exactly the most obvious choices, but, my guess is they keep using it because it would be too much work to change it now).

Once you have the files you want, place them in a folder on the SD card named "updates" and then use SysUpdater to update the files (it can also do downgrades, if anyone else reading this needs to downgrade an 11.6 EmuNAND, the main difference being that you'll have to boot the EmuNAND with Luma since GW can't run it).

If you want to do a "full 11.6 spoof" the titles you need to remove from the 11.6 set depend on hardware and region. The full list of stuff to leave out is:

0004013000002D02
0004013820000002 (N3DS Only)
0004013020001C02 (N3DS Only)
0004003000008F02 (USA Only) (replace it with the 11.4 version if you want to)
0004003000009802 (EUR Only) (replace it with the 11.4 version if you want to)
0004003000008202 (JPN Only) (replace it with the 11.4 version if you want to)
0004013000001C02 (O3DS Only)
0004013800000002 (O3DS Only)
0004013000008002 (O3DS Only)
000400300000CC02 (USA O3DS Only)
000400300000D402 (EUR O3DS Only)
000400300000C402 (JPN O3DS Only)

I would suggest going with a minimalist approach if you insist on not setting up EmuNAND. If you accidentally update NATIVE_FIRM, you will lose your exploit when you boot GW mode. My recommendation would be to just do the friends module (especially if you don't have an NTRBootHax cart).

Hi i am at 11.2 could i use this tut without risk of losing b9s?

Yes. You can run both as long as you don't update. B9S (and the superior Sighax payload, GM9) can run both easily. I would heavily recommend formatting an EmuNAND if you don't already have one. I know it's a pain backing up your card, then copying everything back, but it's for the best both from a safety and flexibility standpoint. You can update SysNAND to 11.6 and still have GW working with the 11.2 EmuNAND. Also, Gateway will stop asking you to enter the key combination and just automatically boot using your EmuNAND if you have one. The GW software really wants an EmuNAND, and it's truly in your best interests to give it one.

Also, I would heavily recommend just using my InScripted AIO (available on the iso site and the max site if you know where to look, if you need more specific instructions on finding it, just ask) instead of the tutorial. The included configurations are ready-to-use (Gateway is already on B, just hold it at boot for GW instead of Luma) so there are no steps to mess up (just drag and drop). It uses a converted Gateway payload so that there is only one chainloader being used instead of three (granted, the speed difference would only be noticeable if you could enter bullet time while your 3DS is booting, but it's a cleaner solution all the same). It also includes tools for converting saves and synchronizing tickets (in case you want to leave your NANDs linked -- for me, it's worth it, so I can play the same games on both). You can also use the included Sighax Updater to update your firm partitions from B9S to GM9 if you haven't already done so manually (it has a bootloader menu that vanilla B9S does not). Though it can update B9S as well (basically, it's like a Safe B9S Installer that can install and update both).

Though that's just the beginning. My AIO has a Settings app on the R hotkey. You can use it to change the default payload and hotkeys to anything you want (or even switch to a different chainloader from the default). I also include other CFWs like Rei-Six (it's on X by default). My goal with InScripted goes beyond just running Luma and GW side by side. I set out to eliminate the long lists of manual steps and multiple trips to the PC for everyone. My goal is to make it as easy to install CFW and configure chainloaders as possible. It may never be as simple as installing and customizing Rebug CFW on the PS3, but it's close. I hope people will like it.

Awesome, I'm gonna try that right now.

Thanks a lot for your answer :D

the point is that even if i update the friend app, i cannot play online since mario kart check the console firmware itself to play online. one simple thing to do would be go to an emunand, but, how i can do this in the easiest way? and if i want to remove it from the sdcard how i can do it simply to free the used gigs? there's a simple way to remove the emunand partition? thanks

Adding/removing an EmuNAND always requires formatting the card, because they're raw partitions. It's never going to be hassle-free. You will always need to back the card up. You can use the original GW software to format if your card is below 256 GB. Be aware that it will crash after completion because, for whatever reason, it fails to copy "Launcher.dat" back to the card from memory when it's done. You could also use GodMode9, but while the full size or even minimum size option actually works with GW, I'd suggest setting the full legacy size manually (1 GB for O3DS, 2 GB for N3DS) to ensure maximum compatibility. If you have a nice 128 GB card, my advice would be to just go ahead and setup 4 now, since most CFWs support 4. You may never need all 4 (most of mine are only using 2), but it beats being caught off guard if a new use materializes. You'll find the easiest way to setup multiple EmuNANDs on the same card here.

GW patches update checks though. That's why new games don't ask you to update when you run them. So, the problem you mention with Mario Kart should not be an issue. The only check GW apparently needs a little help with is the friends system module version. Not that I've tried it. Like I always say, if I want to play online, I've got a PS4. But according to this and the many replies from satisfied users, it works. Try it. If it isn't enough, update Nver and Cver. The only thing updating those won't fool is the eShop (you can even make a fake Youtube video showing that you're running GW on 11.6, because it will say 11.6 in System Settings).

The only thing updating those won't fool is the eShop (you can even make a fake Youtube video showing that you're running GW on 11.6, because it will say 11.6 in System Settings).

so 0004013000003202.cia is the friend module? and wich firmware version i need to download from 3dnus? 0004013000003202.cia is the same name file even on the last firmware? when i use gw with luma3ds and mario kart is on the gateway card, it show error when i click on online play in mario kart saying that console need the last firmware

how i can spoof the latest fw version? in luma gateway mode?

To play ROMs online, they need to have valid headers. You have to patch them with a private header you've dumped from one of your own carts (you'll need an app called "Gateway Rom Patcher v1.2" for that -- copy and paste that into Google or your search engine of choice). Just use it to extract the header from one of your own dumps and inject it into a downloaded one. If the app offers to correct some parts, let it. Once it has a good header, you can rename the extension to .3dz to play the ROM online.

Or you could just use 3DSConv to easily convert any ROMs with online features into CIAs in a single step. That requires a copy of boot9.bin in the folder to work (if you don't already have it, just hold start+select+X when booting your system with B9S installed, and it will dump the boot roms to the "boot9strap" folder).

Hey everyone,

I just followed 3ds.guide (finally) and got CFW on my N3DS. Sadly I lost the contents of my emuNAND before the setup as my SD card crashed and became corrupted. I was able to get an emuNAND backup using emuTool, but the physical files were lost needed for the restore.

Anyway, I'd still like the ability to use my GW in an emuNAND, but I can't find a way to launch the GW menu to create a new emuNAND partition. What other means can I use to create an emuNAND partition and use this tool to boot to it?

P.S. - I've already followed the OP steps and can boot GW in sysNAND mode. My sysNAND is still 9.0 with Luma/B9S/GodMode9 available, and I'm not going to update it until I can get an emuNAND created and validate that my GW will launch to it successfully.

??? gw not support 11.4 neither in emunand or 11.6 too

Wow, you're not understanding. To support GW now we absolutely need emuNAND because as you said does not support 11.4. So we need emuNAND 11.2 unlinked to sysNAND on 11.4 to still use it.

I accomplished this using the steps I mentioned above - create emuNAND in GM9, then tinyformat on sysNAND to unlink. You can update emuNAND to 11.2 using Wooly and Yoshi ROM on your GW cart, press UP on D-Pad while booting to allow update from cart (may take a couple tries since you need to press down to boot into GW with this code).

Edit: I should mention that my sysNAND was on 9.0 before doing any modding. Sort of sad the 3ds.guide mentions to update as soon as you get Luma installed since it doesn't give an easy way to go back unless you want to restore your sysNAND.
