Pokemon Crystal headed to Nintendo 3DS eShop

IMG_5978.JPG

With the successful re-release of the second generation Pokemon games onto the Nintendo 3DS eShop, the "definitive" version, Pokemon Crystal, will also be making its way to the eShop as well. It'll launch on January 26, 2018 for $9.99, and will come with Pokemon Bank compatability, so that you can bring your Pokemon all the way up to Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, from every single mainline Pokemon game. For those that prefer physical releases, there will also be a boxed version that contains the game's download code within. The once impossible to access Celebii event will also be available to the western versions (without cheating) for the first time. A special limited edition Pikachu New 2DS XL will also launch the same day in Europe, while North America will get the PokeBall N2DS XL.

" The once impossible to access Celebii event will also be available to the western versions (without cheating) for the first time. "

But no?

But neat! What are the differences between G/S and C? I can't remember...

As a shiny hunter, this is amazing news since we'll be able to catch a legitimate shiny Celebi for the first time ever.
The celebi is shiny-locked though.

Or am I misunderstanding, and are they putting the Celebi GBC event in this version for some reason?

It's not shiny locked in Crystal, the issue was it could never be transferred past Crystal until now, and it was Japanese exclusive...until now. I missed that bit in the news so now I have more of a reason to play it.

This event is a difference between G/S and C. IIRC the story sequence, GS Ball item, and Celebi encounter trigger are new to Crystal, they didn't exist in the original game.

Plus various bits and pieces like a female player character, the Battle Tower, and Eusine.

This is the same as opening up Visual Boy Advance, and loading Pokemon Crystal (U).gbc, except
this time, it's on Nintendo's official emulator. Why get charged around $7 when you can download the
game and the emulator for free in just a few seconds?
Perhaps people don't want to pirate, or have interest in obtaining the Celebi legit in-game, or want to play and transfer Pokémon from this game to their Gen 7 games?

Well, we have to wait for this version to be dumped. Nintendo is implying the game itself has been reprogrammed to legitimately activate the event outside Japan.
As opposed to just a promotion that adds Celebi to your party.

Shiny-lock don't exist in first four generations until Pokémon Black/White introduced that useless feature.
So This is now the only way to get Shiny celebi from there.

I doubt that is indeed the case. I imagine it will be like the Jynx's palette swap in Yellow VC which was achieved by a VC patch instead of the game being altered, meaning this will probably be a patch that forces the game's Nurse Joy GS Ball event to activate the moment you beat the Elite Four/Champion and go to Goldenrod's Pokemon Center.

Wait, what? How is that a physical release?
*download code inside a box with the console* read the quote you mentioned

a. thats called piracy. if you dont care or think it isnt, go download the VC of crystal on freeshop. (I will do it because paying for things I already have seem unreasonable to me...)
b. it has *legit* gs ball and *legit* celebi
c. pokemon bank. you cant transfer from vba to usum legitimately without it...
EDIT- d. VC for gb/c is WAY more accurate than vba... not as accurate as BGB tho

For the 3DS VC releases of these GBC Pokemon games, are you able to use the 3DS' IR port for mystery gift like you could with the GBC's IR port for these games?

Yup you can do, i've been Mystery Gifting with a friend at work 5 days a week for almost 3 months now. I've managed to get quite a few of the decorative items.

In that time only one of us has got an Evolution Stone though.

Mystery Gifting only works 3DS to 3DS however, not GBC to 3DS.

traivers cia already has the celebi patch just play his now so you don't need to wait just transfer your save i did that before.
thats the thing about pokemon, people consider two identical sequences of 1's and 0's that took the same time to get as two different things- one is legit, the other isnt... you can also get the gs ball with glitches or play on vba with 10x speed and get celebi...

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Just more ez$$$ for Nintendo tbh
At least give us the GBA games! If people actually spend money on those emulations so why not give them the option to play the whole series on one console? They already planned GBA VC but didn't release it which is just a shame.
there *is* gba vc for 3ds but if they would release pokemon gen3 games there then they would have to implement rtc which is pretty hard afaik at the current state of gba vc
to my understanding, you really have a gba inside your 3ds, phisically, but it is completely separated from the 3ds os, processor and memory. only thing you can do is to launch games and read the saves later. it wont be easy to emulate rtc, which was hardware thing inside the carts, as there is no real cart inside. and the gba part is mostly sleeping. so you would get pokemon gen3 with lacking features. also multiplayer is impossible without hardmod which nobody ever did anyways. no pokemon fan would be satisfied with all that...

switch doen't even have vc yet im not sure if we are going to get gen 3 vc on that it also has only one screen and no stylus so i don't think there will be a gen 4 or 5 vc.

you can already transfer from traviers cia of crystal i don't think celebi will transfer until crystal comes out though

Its the same thing and bank already supports crystal so you can play the inject now that has the celebi patch that triggers the gs ball event.

it wasnt shiny locked. there were events in jp where you get gs ball and then you can encounter celebi like any other stationary, which means you can get shiny celeby if you have rngesus on your side
