Hey guys!

I'm a complete noob, I have this PSP (the label is "SERIAL No. AC5463869 E-1004 1D") that a friend of mine gave me and I'd really LOOOVE to put on some emulators (NES, SNES and some basic oldies MAME, if possible...).

I read a couple of guides in this forum, but as I really am a complete noob with PSP I am scared to brick it... =(

From the PSP menu I read that it has "System Software Version 6.60", but from what I understand the E-1004 model is not good with this version and I don't know what to do!

Somebody asked me 50 euros for a microSD with roms and (they promised) a "remote hack" of my psp, but I really don't trust this as a safe solution...............

Can anybody help me find a good and plain tutorial on how to hack my psp?

Thanks!! =D

Ciao from Italy =)

Thanks THYPLEX! =D

Will this be good for just installing some emulators?

...I don't need any online playing or PSP ISO or other fancy stuff, just some portable retrogaming!

Is there any difference between the LME and the CFW hack for just using emulators?

I saw some youtube videos using the LME hack on a PSP Street, but no CFW videos... so, as a noob, I guess the LME feels kind of a "safer" option to me!

Thanks for your answer! =)

Thanks guy! I really appreciate your help! =)

As I really am a noob, and to brick my friend's PSP would really bother me, I still am not sure of what tutorial I should follow! =/

On the "PSP hacking/modding F.A.Q." I read "With the new 6.x hacks every PSP model can be hacked on more recent firmwares, and there's two types of permanent hack. One is the cIPL permanent method used on the 6.60 firmware, this method is the same type as the old 5.x method so it only works on the earlier models (1000 and earlier 2000). The second type is the vshmain.prx patch, and it works on any PSP, but only if it's on 6.20 or below."

From what I understand, I can use the "cIPL" method on 6.60 firmware just on the earlier models (1000 and earlier 2000) or the "vshmain.prx" that I can use on any PSP but only with 6.20 or below...

So it seems to me that my PSP E-1004 model won't be good for either method as it is not a 1000 or early 2000 and it's not either a 6.20 firmware or below! =(

How can I do then?!?

Is there any tutorial for hacking a PSP E-1004 (the "street" model) using a 6.60 firmware?

Is the first tutorial you sent me (the one on wololo) different from the ones on the PSP hacking/modding FAQ? And so, will it work out without bricking my friend's PSP?

Once again, thanks for your help and sorry for my NOOBness!! =D

Correct, use an "LCFW" which must be relaunched every time you fully reset or poweroff the console (not needed if you use standby)

You have a choice of PRO and LME (if you use PRO, you will then use the FastRecovery or DarkSpeed launchers, if you use LME you will need to use the LME installer itself or LightSpeed)

Thanks Ryccardo!

I am learning something new at every reply and at every wiki/tutorial page I read...

...so, if I am right, if I try to use a PERMANENT firmware update there can be problems depending on the version of hardware and firmware of my PSP, but if I choose the TEMPORARY firmware update then I just need to choose the right version corresponding to the firmware of my PSP and it will work "out of the box".

As I already wrote, my only concern is that I don't want to brick my friend's PSP: so if the temporary solution is going to work it's good; if it won't work I would simply need to reboot the PSP and it will turn back to the original firmware, right? =)

Then (if it works, as it should) I will simply need to launch the temporary firmware updater every time I reboot the PSP and that's it, right?

I found this page that I think is the official page of the project: https: // code. google. com / archive / p / procfw/ downloads

I guess the best option, using firmware 6.60, is to download and use the 660PRO-C2.rar file, which seems to be the most up-to-date, right?

For using emulators I then need to download the right emulator (using, for exemple, the great list that THYPLEX linked me) and put it in the "GAME" folder of the memory stick, and then the roms in the right ROM folder based on the emulator... this sounds pretty straightforward even for such a noob as myself! =D

Thanks, guys... I really really really appreciate your time and effort in helping me out! =)

I hope these will be the last questions I am asking you, then I will just confirm you that everything is working!! =D

Correct, except for the part where PSP E1000 has no permanent options - there's Cipl which is cleaner but exclusive to 1000 and old 2000, and Infinity which works on any console that runs 6.20, so excluding Street which started with 6.50

Yes, if you want PRO, extract the PRO files (a seplugins folder for the root, and 3 homebrews for /PSP/GAME/ - you can delete the "Cipl flasher") - and use "PRO update" to install and "Fast Recovery" to launch (optionally you can use DarkSpeed to replace Digital Comics or SensMe channels with a Fast Recovery alternative)

I've never had an E-1004. Would infinty work on it? Kind of permanent? I used it on my 3000 and loved it.

No, Infinity is not compatible with PSP E-1000 (Street)

I see. Sorry. The other option isn't so bad. Happily used that before Infinity and it only takes seconds from a cold boot.

Thanks a lot guys! =D

Yesterday I finally made the trick and now, thanks to your help, everything works smoothly!

Now I'm going to spend some time finding the best emulators (I downloaded one for SNES, but it looks sooo slow! I never thought that emulating a SNES could be so resource consuming...) and then I will finally enjoy the ride! =)

Once again, thanks everybody for the help and support!!

Which CFW did you had installed , the PRO B or the PRO C ?
It doesn't change too much , it's basically the same apart from a few fixes
