Hacking I'm an idiot; I gave my friend my Wii U's SD card

I don't think this is true. As I understand it HaxChi only uses the config when you install it. The minus error is usually from not finding whatever you had config.txt default to when you installed HaxChi (HBL in most cases). I'm pretty sure you can delete, change and alter config.txt after install and it won't affect HaxChi.
It doesn't affect CBHC as far as i know. Normal haxchi still requires access to SDCard since I was not able to boot it at all without config.txt present but i'm now unsure what is happening.

Should I re-download the necessary homebrew and haxchi files, and try that? Or do I risk screwing something up by doing that?

Can you post a screenshot of the SD card contents just to make sure it's all set up correctly?

Also, are you able to launch home brew launcher using the browser exploit? If that doesn't launch either then it points to the SD card causing the issue.

My thought has been that the SD card is not set up properly. I grabbed what seemed to be the correct 'Wii U' folder off of my desktop, but I'm not sure if I've overlooked something.

I haven't tried getting into the homebrew launcher through the browser exploit - I can try that when I'm home in the next couple days, but I have a feeling somebody will be able to spot the problem in these screenshots. Nothing has changed, other than the original SD card being removed, so I feel confident that I just don't have the proper file setup, here.

I do have a few extra SD cards laying around, if I simply have a card that's being finicky - though I haven't received any sort of read errors, and it's confirmed FAT32.

I really appreciate the helping hands, here

We can keep this very simple.
Download the HBL and the Haxchi installer again from wiiubru.com (appstore).
Use Internet Browser exploit (BrowserHax) to get into HBL and install Haxchi again over your current Haxchi game with a new config.txt which is pointing to HBL for the a button (just an example).
Problem solved.

This seems like the way to go at this point. I'll do it when I get a chance this week and report back.

Haxchi uses the .elf version of HBL I believe so make sure you are using that and not the .rpx version.

Format the SD in fat32 with 64k cluster size. Download the latest elf Homebrew Launcher from here, put it in the sd (same structure you posted) and it should work.

I hate to dig this back up, but for those who have a similar problem to mine and stumble across this thread - this worked just fine:

Homebrew is back up and running for me
