Survey Question:

"smhax" is a very, very "potential" exploit that I know almost everyone following it is excited for. But let's just assume nothing happens indefinitely into the future.

Yes, I know, this is some "weird" way of thinking, and this "idea", this "false dichotomy", this "stupid question" will never stay true to the end of time, and "smhax" will eventually happen one way or another. But I really want you to assume it's not happening. That 0.0000...01% of it.

What will you do when "smhax" is nothing but a rumor, a myth, a legend, a "Holy Grail" that never happened? When that happens, please answer the survey!

Purpose:

This is a 2-part survey that I will be personally conducting. This is for me to gather information and evaluate from a sample size of the volunteers who answered the poll, to see what is the current trend at this point in time. Poll survey will close in 20 days. There are 3 scenarios that will occur 30 days (no, not a typo) from now that I am very curious on the effects in this community:
  • Super Mario Odyssey (aka, the release day marks the Before/After hype cycle effect)
  • smhax is happening! (aka, best case scenario occurring since the start of this poll)
  • smhax is not happening! (aka, the current scenario, 30 days later)
I am polling upon what is known about the effects of the hype cycle, and how it can affect the community in a narrowly-focused fashion. We can then compare the before poll results and after poll results, to determine what has happened, if there is a shift, and other interesting things.

Rules:
  • This is a long term study I am conducting. (Of minimum of 30 days at the earliest)
  • Voting result is publicly available to everyone.
  • You cannot vote more than once for accuracy reasons, and to reduce potentially misleading results.
  • Poll will close in 20 days thereafter.
  • The 1st part of the survey starts now. The 2nd part of the survey starts in minimum of 30 days later. (It can be 35 days, or more, depending on future unforeseen, uncontrollable circumstances.)
  • Both 1st part and 2nd part surveys will have identical thread titles (sans the date), poll questions and answers. This is for accurate comparisons only.
  • I cannot do advanced data statistics, because I'm not well versed in statistics.
  • Anything goes in the comments. I'm happy to take in feedback!

Thank you to all volunteers, stay safe and I still love you all, bros and gals!

It sounds like you really need the same people to be polled in both surveys to have accurate results

There is no need to force volunteers to answer both polls. I hate forcing them to do this, and after all, they are volunteers and I respect them for volunteering to answer the poll, and doing so out of their own times.

I don't even have a Switch. :P

Fixed. Thank you!

It's too late. I already voted and I cannot change my answer.

Already bought me a second Switch (fw 2.3.0) ready to be haxxed when/if the day comes.

Sure.. it cost me 300€ but it's a small price to pay for not having to worry about FW-updates messing up my chances of running HB in the future... Peace of mind.

I have one Switch and it's on FW 2.3. I'm not going to update because it's only a matter of time before we can spoof the firmware version. If that takes another 6 months then so be it. I've got plenty of Wii U and 3DS games to play. Or I could buy a PS4 Pro.

Back when the Wii U was new I bought one early in case a firmware exploit came and went with a patch. Then I looked into Wii U hacking and the only hacking possible was on the vWii side, so I waited a bit. Eventually I gave up on the possibility of a Wii U exploit and I let my console update as I bought new games (I actually do buy my games; I like to take advantage of exploits for homebrew and for the convenience of installing my disc games to storage).

Then, about the time that Breath of the Wild was released, I looked into Wii U hacking again on a whim and I discovered that not only was the console fully exploited but that even the latest firmware (5.5.1 at the time) was hackable. I bought a 1TB hard drive, a 64GB SD card and a DS game on the VC; now, all of my disc games are installed to that hard drive and I no longer need to launch Wii mode to play classic NES or SNES games.

If the Switch ends up being exploitable, I will not be surprised to discover myself in a similar position. I do have a Switch that came with firmware 3.0.0 and I have no plans to update in the immediate future, but Xenoblade Chronicles 2 in December is probably going to prompt me if nothing can be done for what I have.

I did just today discover that my 3DS is on an exploitable firmware (via soundhax), when I thought that it had updated past any easy exploits, so that is nice.

Too busy with work and PC games so waiting on the release of anything is a non issue. Honestly the file system for the switch is already understood and the exploits used are already documented perfectly on IOS it's only a matter of time till someone gets bored and releases something or a leak happens which forces thing to move like closed projects like rxTools to become Pasta CFW.
