Hi, i just bought a used 2ds a couple days ago along with a new copy of tomodachi life from gamestop, however after getting the 2ds all set up (internet settings, making a mii, updating etc), i inserted the game cartridge to find out it was broken, and the guy in the store confirmed it was broken by putting it into his 3ds, however they didn't have any other copies of the game in a nearby store, and because it was new and i opened it they refused to give me a refund. I know posts like this must happen all the time, but i wasnt sure of exactly what to search, so i'm hoping someone can help me out here, i'm looking to install a cfw, to install freeshop, specifically to install tomodachi life (for those morally grey individuals collective knowledge), on my Ver. 11.6.0-39U 2ds. The last system i used was a GBA, so i'm fairly clueless as to how i would go about this if any kind soul could either provide me with links to what i need and how to do it, or be an extremely kind soul and provide me with a complete guide to do this. Also i would be using the sd card i insert directly into my 2ds, as i don't have an r4 (which videos showing how to install freeshop itself for earlier updates lead me to believe is possible). Please and thank you.

TLDR
Want to install:
cfw (english)
freeshop

on my:
2ds
update 11.6.0-39u

need:
links
preferably a guide

-no r4 card

ps: i can get the gist of how to install freeshop seeing as how many videos there are for it, so while it would be appreciated if the steps for it were listed here, i can work that much out on my own.
edit: i noticed there's quite a few cfw's, i don't care really which one is recommended, as long as it's good enough for freeshop

If you want to know how to get CFW you could follow this guide here: https://3ds.guide/get-started

There is no free option to get CFW on 11.6 currently. The only options you have is:

Installing it with DSIWare
Installing it with NTRBoot (You need to buy a flash card for this)

Or hardmod (Requires Soldering)

Hope this helps you!

As others will tell you don't follow videos, they usually get outdated very quickly.

Instead use "the" guide.

For your firmware you will need a compatible DS flashcart. Because of your firmware being 11.6 I recommend the R4i Gold 3DS RTS, you'll be able to use that with OFW, per the guide.

freeshop is easy to install, it's just a CIA that you install using FBI.

Don't know how it works in America but in the UK we get a refund in this situation, you don't get a refund if you change your mind but if it doesn't work you're entitled to a exchange/refund.

How can they not give you a refund for a broken game? Complain on their Facebook page, that should get their attention. It wouldn't even cost them anything, because they'll send the broken game back to the distributor and get a credit.
Yeah, they have to take back a defective item if it's within the 30 days you purchased the item, or at the very least give you store credit.

OP, I'd call to speak to a manager and if that's who told you they couldn't take back a defective item, ask to speak to that manager's boss.

Yeah, I find it really strange that they can refuse to replace a broken item. I get that they have a no returns on opened games policy, due to piracy and all that, but surely that doesn't apply when the item is broken. Isn't there some sort of law against that?
I know US doesn't have the same kind of guarantee laws EU has, which are really good by the way, but that's just ridiculous.

Wow, i wasn't expecting to get replies so fast after my initial post, nor as many replies as there is, well thanks for letting me know there's not really an easy free way yet to install cfw on the new update, and i'll take your guys advice and talk to the manager, thanks again :). I don't know if moderators lock threads on this forum, but if they do i guess they can lock this thread now.

They can't refuse if it's within the return policy window. If it's opened however, they might only give you store credit. If I remember correctly, for things such as videogames, movies, CDs, etc, if it's opened you have two options, exchange for a new copy of the same item or store credit.

Even if the item is broken? Well, I guess that's not too bad. It protects the store's sale to some degree so that they don't lose out on a sale because of something that was not their fault and is completely out of their control. I guess I'm fine with that.

In my experience even with an open defective game I couldn't get a cash refund, either an exchange for the same game or a full refund in store credit.

I guess the idea is to make you stuck buying something from that store rather than buy a game, rip it, return it for a cash refund and go spend the money elsewhere.

Some stores will try to be dicks about it, but it would surprise me if that's actually legal.
