You gain nothing and waste battery if it's a laptop. Processors are designed to clock down when idle to save energy. If the processing power is required it will clock back up.

Do your very small bit for the environment and let your devices keep saving power when possible.

Save others watching a drivel video it changes the intelppm registry setting to use another type of throttling, or indeed disable throttling/speedstepping.

My opinion. Pointless and may even come with downsides. Throttling had a few latency issues at first so some did it for games (if my video encoder takes half a second to get up to speed nobody cares, for a game that could spell some trouble). Most of those have since been resolved which is why if you go searching it all stops around 2010. If you disable it you will likely run hotter, have faster fans and burn more power/battery.

for battery power no problem. but is it safe to do it?

On paper it might see the CPU toast itself more quickly (running at full speed all the time will generate more heat, though how much will vary). Get two identical machines and I would not be surprised to see both age into uselessness or taken out by a power surge (or drying capacitors or some other failure mode of PCs) long before it happens. The fans however would likely be running louder or longer (or pump cycles if you are one of those that goes for liquid/phase change cooling) and that is annoying.

If you have already done it then likely no harm done, warranty is still likely there (it is not like overclocking), just turn it back to what it was and carry on with life.

I've used ThrottleStop to do the same thing in the past. Didn't notice any performance improvement at all. In fact it might have made performance worse, because the CPU was getting hotter and therefore not turboing to the same frequency as it otherwise would.

CPUs are designed to handle loads without trouble. Barring some obscure motherboard/driver quirk, a CPU will instantly use all the power it's got the moment it's suddenly required to give its all, it does so. It shouldn't even cause 1% performance drop and it's supposed to be fine even when the CPU goes from idle to full load without any stutter. It's worth a shot for someone having trouble specifically related to situations where it's symptomatic, but not much more.

My 4670k is already doing at overclock frequency it's it worth it? For me yes because once I get into games that are single threaded, my clockspeed jumps and causes the game to crash no idea why it's only older games but that's okay.

My laptop is equipped with a shitty HD Graphics first generation chipset, and can't even play TF2 at minimum settings without pausing momentarily to load the next chunks. It even lags on GTA:SA. GTA:SA!

Here WE GO!

Intel Core i5 M520 2.40 GHz
4 x 1 GB <200 MHz RAM
Intel HD Graphics (first gen)
1366 x 768 60 Hz screen
Logitech M90 mice (max 1000 dpi)

Check out /r lowendgaming they can offer suggestions you should be able to play TF2 without a hitch have you checked your laptop for dust build up? Maybe a fresh OS install if not.

if it crashed then your overclock isnt stable. you should test it properly with prime95 and try increasing the voltage slightly
