As the headline says: I have a N3DS that's still on ofw 11.2. However I want to try cfw for my system. I have soundhax pegged to it but that's about it. If anyone can help, I want to know if it's possible to downgrade my system with soundhax as my jumping off point or if there is another way. I DON'T want to hardmod my system(which a: I don't know how to do that, and b: refuse pay money out my nose to someone else that does.) if I absolutely don't have to.

So long as you have the right tools (NTRBoot) you can get any firmware to have a custom firmware.
Actually the OP is in an even better situation. Being that they are on 11.2, they actually have an OFW with a public kernel exploit. This means following the guide (which has already been suggested,) they can install B9S without having to buy anything or mess with the board.
Although I still suggest users buying a flashcart for future proofing their system with NTRBoot. I mean, it's completely worth it for both having a cart for DS games and the ability to hack every 3DS on any OFW.

OK. I tried to update my n3ds 11.2 to a cfw using the soundhax guide on 3ds.guide. However by accident I skiped a step involving boot9strap(homebrew launcher) and updated with what I had and it say I'm now on 11.6 and not Luma. I'm able to use HBL using the rosalina menu on the download play app but when I try to use the step I skipped, I keep getting an "an exception occurred" message. How can I fix this?

yes it does. why?

If it says Luma configuration or similar than it means you've got Luma 3D which means you've managed to install B9S and CFW, still not getting which step you've meant to have skipped. If you ran the safeb9sinstaller(or whatever it was) and it didn't fail then again you've got B9S which means your system is hacked.

Ok, but I'm on the finalising step where it said to open up HBL and then open up FBI app, it gives me an error screen with a bunch of numbers involving something with "arm11". I'll send a pic of I can later.

Here it is. The error screen I keep getting whenever I try to launch something from HBL.
