I've had my ps4 and the 2 controllers that came with it since around 2014 and I've lost the original charging cable since then. I used my phone cable for a bit but then that broke and all the other cables in my house either don't fit it or when I plug them into the controller it gives 2 seconds of charge and shuts off. It happens with both controllers. Is there any way to fix this?

Could it be that the battery may be dead? For you to check if it is you'd have to open the controller so going by assumption, it is if you can't get it to charge at all.

@Foxi4 any chance you'd be able to help this fella out?

If you have a phone charger handy, check if the controllers charge when connected to it. If they don't and there are no issues with the ports or the cables, the safety chipset is disabling the charging process either for safety reasons (Li-ion cell damage) or because it's getting false battery state reports (faulty charging circuit/battery). It's hard for me to diagnose the issue without seeing the controllers themselves, but since both are experiencing the issue simultaneously, I expect it to be related to the cables you're using or the console itself rather than the controllers. Like I said, use a phone charger - a 1A plug should be more than ample for a fast charge. Once the controllers are sufficiently charged, the circuit should switch to trickle charging again, which will probably resolve the problem. If not, look into buying spare batteries and charge boards - thankfully the PS4 controllers are modular and parts are relatively cheap. If all your attempts fail, you might need new controllers, although that's unlikely.

I used a phone charger from my S7 and that was able to charge but that recently broke and I can't currently switch batteries or the entire board inside because I'm in Costa Rica but I will look into that when I return home. Oh and I'm not sure if the same issue is occurring with my other controller because I left it at a friend's house.

Verify whether it occurs on both controllers. If yes then it's a problem with the PS4 (if the charger works) or the cable (if it doesn't). If only one controller fails to charge, it's the USB board or the battery. If it's both then you might suffer from any combination of the issues above.
