Pokémon Gold and Silver 3DS virtual console games to get boxed release in EU

IMG_3673.JPG

In the last Nintendo Direct, we were given the announcement that the GameBoy Color classics, Pokémon Gold and Silver would both be getting the virtual console treatment on the Nintendo 3DS. The games would also support Pokémon Bank, allowing for players to transport any creatures caught into the modern games. However, Nintendo of Europe had a curious Tweet today, showing off physical versions for these games. Stylized to look just like their original boxed release, both Gold and Silver will be sold on store shelves. As to the contents of the box itself, the only thing inside is a 3DS e-Shop download code and some stickers. This has only been announced for Europe at the time of writing, and doesn't appear to be scheduled for America.

Update: They're 9 pounds per game, one copy each limited per consumer.

Even though i'm kinda excited about this if it's not going to cost much, it also gives me the scary thought that they could put this practice into use in other future releases and potentially strip down physical carts completely, leaving only boxes and papers for "collectors".

Pokemon is amazingly big...but their special edition always sucks. The last time i see something "good" was, the inorny is srtong in this one, with Heart Gold and Soul Silver. Unless they GameStop or whatever pur inside something extra...only digital for me and i will be happy.

They make these for people that can't use a credit card to purchase them for whatever reason, my local gamestop sells little cards that have download codes for 3ds games right next to the physical copies of the games, i assume for kids that save up money to get a game and also want digital?

So they release an empty box with a download code. Okay, whatever. Tell me though, WHY DOES IT HAVE TO HAVE A BIG BOX ON THE FRONT THAT SAYS NO GAME CARD ON IT. That kind of ruins the whole aesthetic doesn't it? I hope they make it just a sticker on the cellophane.

"Including GBC cartridge" Except they don't make GBC cartridges anymore lol
That didn't stop capcom for example with rereleasing ducktales for the nes.

What a waste of paper/plastics...

The games are nice, but selling empty boxes with more paper inside just to get a download code, is as I said... a waste of paper/plastics...
Also happened with marvel vs capcom 2 for ps3, just a case with only a digital code inside. such a waste.

You can also get a nintendo eshop card so you don't need a credit card to buy things.

lol a box with a dlc code in it. useless... I can make a box if i wanted. place an actual 3ds cart in there and ill be impressed. The box with a dlc code in it is about as useful as getting a star in Mario kart 64 on the last lap from the last set of item boxes when the other racers have already placed and your 8th......

It would be better if it was a multi-cart 3ds case holder....

i hate this type of releases and they are becoming more comon each year, it reminds me of first series of ducktales remastered where you got cases with only codes, and wiiu/3ds march of the minis or whatever its called also empty boxes and manny more games.

srs why the hell do people want empty boxes you can just grab a random ps3 boxes print a sleeve and you got an empty box just the same lol. this are kinda diferent becuase they are cardboard but still they are praticaly useless.
