Sonic Mania to have "competition mode"

Sonic Mania is releasing in a week, and hype and excitement are reaching a fever pitch, as the release date draws ever closer. In efforts that seem purely like agonizingly teasing fans further, SEGA has uploaded another trailer, this time, about the fact that the classic styled split screen 2 player mode is back.

Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles are all playable characters in Sonic Mania’s Competition Mode. Winners are determined by a few factors: clear time, score, number of items acquired, number of rings acquired when clearing the level, and total number of rings acquired throughout the level. Players can adjust the rules of each match by adjusting items in the item boxes and number of rounds that take place.

Sonic Mania will release on August 15th, for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch.

Even stretches like the old genesis games lol. Nice addition to a great looking game.

Saw this announcement on Twitter and it's really cool they're doing as much as they can with Sonic Mania. Not enough though (no physical release). :P

kinda sad and confused..
we got 1080p and even 4k resolutions, the original game is in SD quality. and looks so awfull :C
it looks like that because "retro" "nostalgia" "experience" lazyness, or what?
Hm?

Sonic Mania is in high definition but with 16bit visuals.

but the video looks so awfull.. and too flat for each player...
I get what you're saying. The video looks shit but they probably did that on purpose to make it look nostalgic, retro, oldie.

Crash Bandicoot ads did it better.

It could have been worst, it could have look like a GBA game upscaled to 4K, be glad is not this. :P

Anyway, I mean I guess the thing to make this better would be a GBA color pallet or graphic setting that makes the game look like 32 Bit and look more like sonic advance? Who knows, maybe optional changes could be made, just a week from now until the game is released. :D

Oh man, I hadn't seen footage of Green Hill Zone before, but is this how the waterfalls look ingame? Because that's some hot garbage:

That worked on the original and actually looked like a waterfall because of smearing from the shitty analog video cables, but on digital TVs... yeah, no.

this game is shaping up to be a sonic fan's dream. I'm pretty excited for the game, but I'm not updating my ps4 for it. I might get it on the switch once I get a switch.

Excited for Mania, will be the 5th game I buy for my Switch, and my first 3rd party title at that (BOTW, MK8Deluxe, Arms, and Splatoon 2 are the games I already own for the system, I also have the Puyo Puyo Tetris demo, because that demo really includes everything I really want to experience in that game, its kinda nuts how much content you get in that demo.)

Nice. It actually seems like a proper multiplayer mode for a Sonic game. Hopefully it doesn't end up like Sonic 2's multiplayer where only 3 levels and a Special Stage were playable.

I'll be honest, though. I never really played the multiplayer mode as a kid. probably because I had no friends

Coincidentally it will be my 5th purchase as well. I had wanted more games by now but the prices for them is a bit out of my preference for what I seen of the game so far, and nintendo keep releasing game ports as$60 status games instead of a discount $40 of some kind, and the games that is $40 seem to me like $20 games. Again, opinions but is mine and I know some people don't care for it, just if everything that could be %50 discount, would sell better. I'm more surprised that games like Blaster Master zero and Mighty gunvolt burst is both $9.99 with FREE DLC OFFERS and still people don't buy it as much as the others.

Oh well, my way of thinking sucks and many agree, quality doesn't equal price, and neither does the content as well. Wait, my post was just noting how we have the same 5th game purchase in common. Sorry, carry on. :)
