he said he had a bunch of seeds what he really is doing is stealing peoples seeds you need to be careful with homebrew some one could make a homebrew game that uploads your seed and steals it then people post it on the iso site and it gets banned
Thank god then.Thats a relief.it's not a malware... just opening it doesn't use internet connection. and even if you uploaded or downloaded something, the data is gone as the database was wiped
first of all... 3 + 14 seeds is not a "bunch"he said he had a bunch of seeds what he really is doing is stealing peoples seeds you need to be careful with homebrew some one could make a homebrew game that uploads your seed and steals it then people post it on the iso site and it gets banned
It became a thing once Nintendo started banning public seeds from the chaos site not too long ago. (like last week I think) Then the op sudjested it as a new backup plan and added it to the guide,so people started downloading it,promoting it and using it.Out of curiosity, how many people even used any version of UnbanMii? I only heard about it today through this malware news, and as far as unbanning, the most talked about route was method 2 in the OP.
Not too sure if it'll be worth it as the reputation is now ruined...it would be nice if we had unbanmii or another method that was open source that was safe, but either decision I am sure people would be fine with it.I might make an open-source one which will handle stuff much safer without sending raw sensitive data to the server, but at this point I'm debating if it's worth it after all what has happened... :/

it's not a malware...
I'd like to be very clear here: accidental malware is still malware.
The Data was getting uploaded to our Servers for verification / banning people from using UnbanMii , and were deleted immediatley. we never intended the App to steal Data without Permission. we are sorry for not putting a Disclaimer in it. You can be sure that none of your data got saved.
I got access to the server again, so I did a DROP TABLE which deleted a whopping 17 entries, of which the first 3 was from the team by the looks of the first few characters of the NAND CID...
Paul lied.Am I the only one wondering about this?
No, none of that will happen my friend.I used UnbanMii v1.1. Am I now going to be banned? Should I change my NNID info and cancel my debit card? I am worried, could someone ease my worries?
Should I be worried about getting banned? I only did this to replace my private seed with a public one.No, none of that will happen my friend.

This is @arc13 's explanation on his end, as posted to #general-off-topic in the freeshop discord.
Additionally, later on he posted this (same channel):

I genuinely at this point believe that this was a severly misguided mistake for all parties involved and that it might just be time for all of us to move on. UnbanMii is dead anyway, and there is no use beating a dead horse. Practice caution around closed source software, and if you don't trust it, don't use it until someone who is more experienced than you has given it the go ahead.

Also, about the versioning worry:

So only those that used 2.0 got their shit leaked.
If the devs are 100% being truthful about deleting the data, then I wouldn't worry about it. Honestly, I don't know them so I can't speak on their integrity.Should I be worried about getting banned? I only did this to replace my private seed with a public one.
Because the code that uploaded your info wasn't implemented until the 2.0 release.Should I be worried about getting banned? I only did this to replace my private seed with a public one.

How are you sure that only people who used 2.0 got their "shit" leaked?
Has someone who is knowledgeable in the 3DS looked through the leaked source code, or are we going on the word of MarcusD (The dev)If the devs are 100% being truthful about deleting the data, then I wouldn't worry about it. Honestly, I don't know them so I can't speak on their integrity.
