I would create a brick-code, would insert it in any scene release that comes out, and upload these manipulated games/software to countless file hosters. I would spread terror and fear

There are so many ways you would get screwed by doing this, you would cause the company you work for a lawsuit, you would cause yourself a lawsuit, you wouldn't be able to sell your product in some countries because of this code (there are laws in countries outside of the US that prevent you from implementing things like this), not to mention its a complete and utter garbage move and would most likely ruin a company.

If something I am aware of gets patched, obviously I'll talk about it publically (I immediately added the NS module dumping flaw in pl:u to the wiki when it was patched in 3.0.0). Edit: I suppose this only applies to things I've found or have permission for, it would be shitty to share others' exploits I'm trusted with without asking first, even if they're patched. Unlikely to ever be relevant, though, hard to imagine someone wanting to keep something secret after it's patched, heh.

For unpatched things: probably only reasonably releasable when there's some kind of backup exploit in place to prevent the release from locking us out on future firmwares? This is all highly contextual and hard to talk about in advance, though.

Not to mention that such shared exploits might even be sold to Nintendo for a quick buck, it has happened before.

If i take a look at the current Switch hacking-progress, there's really one big question that bothers me: Why isn't Nintendo able to protect their hardware?

Hacking a PS3 is often a hassle with limitations, some models/FW's are unhackabe (as much as i kow). PS4 and XboxOne have been on the market for much longer and are still unhacked.

How f****** incompetent is Nintendo? And why?
Not to sound rude or anything but I don't think paying white hackers to do the job for them is being fucking incompetent and/or stupid.
If anything, its smart.

I feel like Nintendo maybe focuses more on hiring people who are able to provide a nice experience for the end user than they do people who are able to keep their consoles secure. I don't know why they'd do that, though.
It could also be that there's not very many people willing to work for Nintendo who have the skills to create something secure?

Maybe that's the reason, Nintendo offers a nice experience to end users with their games than use that many resources trying to control everything on their consoles and don't allow the user to enjoy their time playing.

I wouldn't call that being stupid at all. Nintendo is always on top with their new gaming experiences, to the point that other console makers always try to find a way to emulate them. Not everything on console gaming experience is about "the power of the system", you know? It all boils to having fun, and Nintendo knows for sure how to provide that.

Unlike Sony where their console is pretty much the only thing that keep the whole company stay afloat
(I mean other than that, their phone, their tv and their movie studio are all failure), Nintendo on the other hand have a lots of money for back-up and they have 3DS if anything go wrong so they are ok with a little bit of piracy.

So you're formally admitting here that even given budget and time, such as if you and a few friends were just shoved in charge of Nintendo one day, knowledge is a hurdle that would shut you down instantly - because the people running Nintendo are significantly smarter than most of us are. Wasting time making ragethreads asking if a corporation is stupid isn't exactly proof of sanity.
I am not saying nintendo is stupud. Period.
The fact I am not a professional security research man, and that I admit that I wouldnt be better then them doesnt mean that they did ok. They should have the money to hire the ones that can do this shit, and the fact that hackers got to the security hardware (I dont know if they actually have ace but I will assume they do) shows that nintendo failed to hire people who are smarter then us and should have done something to prevent it.
Look, see another example- you go to a restaurant and ask for "something delicious" and pay an ammount of money. Then they give you something that is has no taste and at most represents a food that an average man could do in his spare time. You start complaining, then they say- "can you do better???" I would say "no, im far from being a chef but I paid lots of money and you promised something delicious, plus you should have the budget for expert chefs and people who are better then me.

You are one of the biggest compabies out there, dont compare your abilities to some average guy"...

It's hard to tell if their security is particularly bad or Nintendo consoles are just bigger targets for homebrew because they're usually a million times better hacked and when it comes to piracy, their games are much smaller and are thus quicker and easier to download and Nintendo consoles are often the cheapest.

Nintendo products pull a much bigger community dev wise, basically hacking there systems just to improve there e-peen! it attracts a much wider audience for them also with backing/money etc.. The C3 convention love a new Nintendo hack to show off, yes they come with a new era, a new year and it makes a special night for them! :creep:

Maybe Nintendo should have made some other os and then took it away later on.
Nintendo actually intended to use some form of Linux or Android based Operating System on the Switch. They never wanted to spend time and money actually developing one from scratch though, so they asked a company for help, and that company refused.

Nintendo can't afford to spend the amount of money that sony and microsoft do to secure their hardware. Nintendo CAN'T compete with xb1 and ps4,they just tell you guys that they want to be "different" . Reality is that they can't afford to take any losses on the console so they have to sell gimmicks that get hacked fast.
You clearly have no clue what you're talking about. Nintendo have enough money in the bank for them to make similar losses to recent years for over 30 years more. They could quite easily afford to make a loss on the console because any losses would be recuperated through licensing. Sony and Microsoft may have more money in the bank, but in terms of budget their PlayStation/XBox departments have to compete with their other consumer product departments (like Bravia, Xperia, Windows, Surface, etc), which isn't the case for Nintendo.

What you see -- that Nintendo stuff gets hacked faster -- is actually because Nintendo consoles drive a lot more interest than the others; very few people with the relevant skills are trying to hack the PS4, but I can think of >20 talented people interested in hacking the switch off the top of my head. It's no wonder, then, that when nintendo's code is subject to far, far higher levels of scrutiny that its mistakes are noticed more quickly
Macs don't get viruses because the hackers are working on the Switch?

Didn't Nintendo even have consultations with Nvidia and ARM how to better protect the Switch?

I love the QA with SciresM... I mean the main point of the OP had been refuted. So, all that's left is to ask someone who actually knows something all of these questions. @SciresM should have a QA thread. For real. It'd be interesting.

@SciresM idk if it has been answered but, when you find an exploit, even if you dont release it, can you at least tell us if its patched on the latest version asap after the release of the update? That will allow us to know if we can update or not

The devs already do that as fast as they can. It shouldn't be the devs responsibility to tell you quickly. If you want to hack your switch you should by default not update until you get the all clear.
