Hi, I'm new to this forum.

I know Nintendo allows 1 digital back up of all of their games, so i was thinking it would apply to amiibos too, right?

I would like to back up my amiibos so I can travel with all of them. I have access to this exact kind of card reader/writer. I figured that I can make keychains of my main amiibos and bring them with my switch. The program (Mifare general read/write v1.2) doesn't allow me to copy .bin files to a card. It only randomizes it seems.

My question is: is what I have able to copy .bin files onto the keychains? If so, what program do i need? If not, what is the alternative other than packing my amiibos? I do not have an android device so please give me PC only solutions/ideas.

Thanks in advance!

You need an android phone with NFC function, the app Tagmo, and NFC NTAG215 cards/stickers/keychains etc etc. Has to be 215. others will not work.

is there any other way besides android phone? Will my card reader/writer not work? what kind of software options do i have to make it work?
That reader seems to be RFID. completely different technology. Amiibos are NFC. there is this if you have a 3DS. but it's still in an early stage and i have no personal experience with it.

And of the right capacity
Care to elaborate? as far as i know all NTAG215 NFC ones work?

Double checked, apparently all 215s are supposed to be the correct 540 bytes, but I remember some sellers trying to pass off different capacities as the wrong models

13.56 MHz is compatible with NFC, but good luck finding appropriate software that also lets you set the encryption key (key_retail.bin)

Correct. I think I still have some of the keychains (pictured in the link). I believe those will work. Correct me if I am wrong though. So any advice on how I can use my card reader to copy it over?
The key chains would be RFID tags, not NFC. So no, neither the tags nor the reader/writer as part of the Amazon link will work. You need NTAG215 NFC tags, and you need an NFC reader/writer (an android phone with NFC).

Ah darn, that sucks. Isn't RFID capable of NFC? I totally thought it was. I guess I have to buy something then. Any recommendations for a computer program that could use .bin files for amiibos?

Do you have a 3DS? If so then tagmo homebrew would work and all you'd need is the NTAG215 cards/stickers/keychains. There's also some devices made just for amiibos. but i cant recall the name of it sorry. Edit: It's Amiiqo.

A PC program would be more complicated to create due to driver compatibility and such. The most popular way is to just use TagMo on an android phone.

There's no software made to take advantage of USB NFC readers, but there's a method using an arduino and a NFC reader module you could try, the parts don't cost too much. Instructions are on the forum somewhere.

I guess I should give up then! I can't afford to buy an Android! Thank you for the help!

Back in the day (at least), Nintendo allowed one digital back up of a game that you owned. So other than the game cartridge, Legally, you can have a digital back up.
That's not a Nintendo policy. That's just US copyright law. Not sure how it translates to other countries, but I assume Europe is less corporation-friendly than the US, so it probably applies across the pond, too.
