For the second part, from what I gather, it stops giving you update nags and auto updates, even without dns setup. DNS setup is just so that you don't update by accident, or auto update if a newer system update gets released

The fact that we can delete the folder and it doesn't allow the update tells you that they can't apply an update.
The only conceivable way would be maybe if a new game had an even newer update than 5.5.2 that they programmed to create the upload folder and forced us to upgrade to it to play the game.
Hi I have a problem with spoofing. Wup Installer goes after selecting the install folder into black screen. Does anybody have a solution?

FWIW, the Wii U can get pissy about this - I get an error constantly and Quick Start (I don't use CBHC for reasons) gets all pissy and blinks yellow every so often.
Impossible.
Ways to try to update to 5.5.1 without having to do all the hassle are being looked into.

No, it's impossible for them to make the disc update the Wii U when the update is a set of IOSU calls the Wii U would do to update to that version, they will fail because the data cannot be stored anywhere most likely. I mean, it's likely the disc is the install medium in which case deleting the folder is invalid, but most likely not.
I think u need the legacy edition of wup installer for system files. the latest version(s) don't work.

spoofing is meaningless at this point. u can still play online, and u can access the eshop with nnu patcher. spoofing also won't get around an automatic update.
There's some evidence that spoofing might interfere with disc updates, but otherwise, spoofing is currently pointless if you're already on 5.5.1.
There also aren't any 5.5.2 discs, so it's truly pointless.
