Superbeat XONiC heads to Nintendo Switch

image.png

After getting a console port to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One earlier this year, the rhythm game made by ex-DJMax staff will be making its way to Nintendo Switch. Revealed via an ESRB leak, a Nintendo Switch port of the game was uncovered early before the company could issue an official announcement. Going off what the document shows, it seems SEGA will be physically distributing copies of the game, when it launches on October 3rd. (Retailing for $39.99) The Switch version will also feature optimized touch controls, customized for the tablet, compared to the original's Vita touchscreen controls.

 GBAtemp officially reviewed the original release of the game. You can read that here.

Eehhh, looked at gameplay (since I've never seen or heard about this game) and it just looks like osu but shit. The only reason people care about this game is because of it's anime aesthetic, heck that's probably why it's on the front page.

No Superbeat is really good. But hey let's judge games as shit despite never playing them.

Youre lucky. Here in canada, switch games are like 65-80$
Even the indie games that is only download digital? I mean I wouldn't mind having more games for switch, but the prices.... nintendo has $60 ports like no one else does (Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and I bet pokken tournament), games that haven't been in developement suddenly pop up and cost more than $40 (super bomberman R, Ultra street fighter 2) and indie games that are download only up their prices from a common $15 value, (Shovel Knight, Shantae 1/2 hero, Wonderboy Dragon's trap) :wtf:

Judging by the cover art, I can see exactly why this was reported on.
Oh? Is it because it's a port to the Switch?
Cuz I cover Switch news.

Oh? Is it because it's a rhythm game?
Cuz rhythm games are rad.

Oh? Is it because it was a title that many people here liked?
Cuz it was made by the old DJ Max crew and lots of users LOVE that series.

Is it because it's a port of a game that was prior reviewed by staff?
Yeah. I loved the game. More people should check it out.

Is it because it's news? And get this...I'm news staff? Why yes indeedy!

You're literally judging the game by its cover. Much as you'd LOVE to whine about it, the game lacks any "weeb" tendencies besides the cover art. So good job on that one. Keep crying over nothing please, cuz I sure do love reporting your comments as spam.

Exactly. Superbeat was a great game on Vita, and I'm psyched that Nintendo players will get a chance to try it out now. If I get a Switch, I'll definitely pick it up one day. Nice to see--even if it's a port--more rhythm games on the platform.

Because it looks like cartoon Barbie?

I don't recall seeing any cartoon barbie games reported on...ever...on this site.
But you've never been a bright lad so you may just be confused.

I bet we'll never see another DJ Max game, or even a Superbeat on PC. I love DJ Max, played all of the PSP ones and Trilogy for PC. Still thinking about if I buy a Vita (no Switch for now, because no CFW).
For the ones that played this, does it resemble DJ Max in terms of gameplay and controls?
And to @CeeDee, play DJ Max Trilogy and you'll see that it's got nothing weeb about it. Some MVs have western like design, some have artsy, and then some have anime like, but they're not even japanese, they're korean. I love the music in these games and to me the MVs are just a nice addition, but they're not needed and you can even deactivate them.

Too expensive, gameplay looks like dumbed down Osu, touchscreen only. Don't think I'll be picking this up.
But... It's not touchscreen only. At least, the Vita version certainly wasn't; I would be quite shocked if they went and removed controller support for no reason. It shares some similarities with osu, but so do all rhythm games. It's honestly a really darn good rhythm game for people who like the genre.

If you're into the anime aesthetic, there are way better games to go for, as this game doesn't have any of that besides the cover image. This is about as vanilla as a rhythm game gets while still being fun. They probably chose that created that art for the cover because it's par for the course in Asian rhythm games. (Superbeat XONiC is Korean.) It doesn't really add to or detract from the game, since as I mentioned, the game play does not feature Anime characters all over the place like you would see in other rhythm games.

This game's not for everyone, I'll give you that. But I just can't stand people knocking it out of sheer ignorance. If you don't like rhythm games, that's fine, you probably won't like it. But for die-hard rhythm game fans like myself, it's pretty hard to hate on a game so well-crafted to appease rhythm gamers that just want to play without the frills.
