I've been playing Cavestory on this, and it's great! The only issue for me is that you cannot save your game on NXengine. It crashes when you save in-game and says "NXEngine does not support save states when I try to, well, use a save state. Apparently it works for other platforms though. Do you have any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks in advance!

Roll back to 1.4.1 or 1.5.0, MAME core worked fine for me on that.
okay now I have tested both version 1.4.1 and 1.5.0 and they both gave me DSI exception each time
I'm trying to play 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (World 4 Players, version X)' ROM
maybe that's not a compatible rom but I tried a few others as well.
:(

I was able to play it just fine, you have to use the right ROM set.

Is there a games compatibility list for the Wii U port somewhere?

I've been trying to get Osman and Battletoads arcade to run with the Mame core but I get jumbled on-screen sprites with Osman and a black screen with a buzzing sound on Battletoads arcade.

Has someone been able to run these two successfully? Thanks in advance.
Try with fba (not fba 2012), I don't recall the romset version but it's here somewhere.

Is there any possible way to replicate this on the Wii U version? As of now I have a forwarder that leads to Retroarch from the Wii U menu but it would be more preferable to have something of this manner to have Sega Genesis games, Playstation (When it runs better) etc. on the Wii U menu and look like another virtual console game.

There's certainly something broken with recent Genesis Plus GX versions. It's the only "confirmed working" core which always gives me DSI exceptions, despite it working flawlessly a few weeks ago. I see that some people had issues with this core too, like DSI on swapping cores from something else to Genesis. Wiping configs, reverting to 1.6.0 stable version and formatting the SD card didn't help.

I currently use standalone RPX apps without core files in "cores" folder, as I found reloading cores every time you load another rom extremely tedious.

I tried ELF version (2017_07_25), but it just refuses to start - it gets stuck on black screen before even reaching the menu. It's very weird, I've never noticed anything like this before.

Usually they should be. Except mame. I think any other core is more stable. At least in 1.5

That's what I currently use, I see no reason to go to 1.6.0 (no new features for Wii U), gonna try that though. I used to use individual cores and it worked perfectly actually. Thanks :P

Okay, I managed to launch .elf Genesis Plus GX and get to the menu, but loading a single game crashed it with DSI error. I guess .elf and .rpx doesn't make a difference here.

RPX is to bypass memory limitations, as bigger apps need to be in RPX format. ELF on the other hand, doesn't have any advantage. I'd just as soon stick with RPX only.
