Think of it this way, ever played metroid on nes? Yeah, it is hard. No map, no check points. Is basically the same thing. But to admit some good things, this is the first game to feature space jump. Only game to have spider ball, plenty of save points... even though is kinda not abundance and placed in odd locations, you NEED A TON OF MISSILES. Trust me You will be killing more metroids in this game than any other. Basically your goal is to kill all metroids, you kill a number of them, the screen shakes the acid or whatever liquid gets lowered, allowing deeper travel into the planet. Some metroids evolve and take like over 30 hits to kill, the last one is a pain, like over 100+ missile shots. Watch a speed run, you'll be glad you got a remake. I would been happy if they just did a GBA remake like Metroid Zero Mission, but the big question is will this be better than Super metroid?
Perhaps I should say is worth playing over the GB game if is easier, I.E. Have a map that is useful and also have properly placed save points. Not to mention that dumb thing with the one beam type limit. Ice beam, wave beam or spazer? Really? ONE CHOICE? The nes game let you have wave beam and ice beam and you can only pick one in the sequel? 
Think of it as what would you rather play, metroid 2 on gameboy, metroid samus returns, or Super metroid. I vote super metroid. (Also I hope is not hard to 100% with the impossible to realize item locations)

I also prefer physical games for collection purpose. sometime I don't even unbox them.
no more special edition on amazon France (all copies sold out the first day), maybe they will get new ones later.
I'll wait a little before buying, if not I'll get just the normal edition.

Probably not. I might even pass on it as a whole. I don't find myself playing on my 3ds as much as I used to. I just use my 3ds for Homebrew, and maybe some NDS games.
If you want a GBA remake of Return Of Samus, go find AM2R. It has it all: Zero Mission style graphics and gameplay, perfectly remixed soundtrack, a few awesome remixes from other Metroid games, callbacks to the Prime series, even a callback to Other M, suit upgrades can be toggled on/off, a BADASS original boss, one returning boss which I, personally, was blindsided by, and even a badass escape sequence.I would been happy if they just did a GBA remake like Metroid Zero Mission, but the big question is will this be better than Super metroid?

Full 360 controller support, you can even set Morph Ball and Spider Ball activation to separate buttons. Fullscreen defaults to 1080p, provided your monitor is set to it, but the game was still made in a 4x3 aspect ratio, so it will be pillarboxed.But can i play it with a controller?

If that was a joke, I didn't get it...I got ADHD, 4X3 is a problem for me.
I don't like playing games with borders on it because is distracting. I usually set the game to full screen so is not distracting.

I wouldn't buy it anyway. I might pirate it to try it out, but I've never been a huge fan of 2D Metroid or even Metroid Prime.
I doubt the new remake will change my mind, but you never know.
